I feel so impatient just now as I am waiting for the November Challenge to come up too fmess.
    :o

Oooops. it might be up by now. I got distracted whilst writing this as I was trying to figure out what to do with my destroyed eggs (the unseperated ones)... so I have attempted pastry for the first time and made mini quiches.
    :D

It looks interesting. They have just gone into the oven now so am looking forward to seeing what they are like. It was a mix of two recipes, a pastry one for pies, quiches and tarts and a mini quiches recipe that apart from the three eggs I have totally ignored. So if it all goes wrong, I will only have myself to blame.

My Dad does pretty much everything DIY for me. I was speaking to OH yesterday and trying to explain that it isn't that I doubt his manliness at DIY stuff, it's that I want to keep my Dad active and involved as he has always been involved in everything. OH is happy with this as he says he is going to learn from my Dad (which I thought was quite sweet).
    :o

Oh well, away to go see if November has arrived yet.

I am the same with waiting for the November Challenge. I've checked about 20 times since NSK said she might post it today! How sad am I! I've also been reading past monthly challenges and NSKs DFW thread.

I'm very impressed with your baking! I've never tried making pastry, it sounds difficult to get right when they show it on cooking programs.

My dad has never done DIY :( But luckily my OH will do anything DIY based. He decorated the whole house when I went travelling a few years ago and this year he decorated the kitchen and made a cupboard when I went on holiday :)

Better go check if the Challenge is up!

It can't possibly be almost November!

    I won't let it be.

Hope the pastries came out well.

I'm actually quite jealous of the other people doing DIY thing - when I lived with my ex I did it all, and then when I lived alone I was still responsible. Then again if I wanted anyone to help me it'd be my step Dad - he taught me to tile, basic plumbing and electrics when I was staying with him and my Mum in the Canaries when I was 19. Possibly the weirdest holiday I ever had. :rotfl:

You are just as sad as me... I keep getting worried that it goes up whilst I am reading other people's threads.
    :o

I imagine the pastry will not work that well although I don't want a soggy bottom. (dam that great british bake off and masterchef australia for introducing me to baking).

Hooray!! The quiches were a success!! (I think. They are edible anyways).
    :j

Do you not bake at all fmess??

Aw... scubaangel. Hows you?? That sounds like a brilliant holiday. My Dad allows me to try to do stuff but it's like "do you see that gap that no-one will ever see?? You can put the tile in there".
    :P

It is very almost November. Do you feel like joining us in the November Challenge thing?? Or do you have your own plans and stuff?? (I need competition and other people around to keep me on the right path otherwise I would cheat).

It would have been a better holiday if I'd been warned ;)

    Plans? Whats a plan? :D

If I remember to look up the thread this month I'll give it a go.

I want to go to sleep but worried it'll go up whilst I'm asleep (as if that actually matters!)

I do bake but only the same things, and they are all simple (flapjack, fairy cakes, cookies etc). Maybe I'll try a new recipe over half term, quite fancy making jam tarts, they can't be that difficult?

I wish I could plumb, do tiles and electrics, that'd be so handy! Very jealous scubaangel :) if I could do all that I might get a new bathroom sooner :)

The problem is I'm not qualified to do any of it so will likely never use it, and most plumbing is like lego these days - the pieces slot together and you'd have to be pretty dim to mess it up!

I quite enjoy the tiling though, would never take money for it but have replaced tiles and regrouted things in rented places to save waiting for the landlords to get it sorted.

A plan is something I need so that I don't mess everything up.
    ;)

If I just "wing it" as I used to do, I go shopping everyday, buy rubbish that I do not need (stockpiling and junk food). The November Challenge is forcing me to be accountable for my own actions.
    :D

Oh yeah, quiches were amazing and didn't have soggy bottoms!!
    :j

It's completely up to you scubaangel. I think me and fmess has just found it good as a guideline on what to do and getting some support when things go a bit wrong.
But other people might find it a bit too strict or prefer to follow their own path. I admire people who can do that because I can't. (I just spend everything and then ask my dad for help).

    Yay for unsoggy bottomed quiches.

I should have a plan, winging it is how I'm unemployed, in debt and living with my Dad at 28. I just tend to follow a pattern of making plans and forgetting about them.

I am normally up until 03:00ish so I can always put your name in if you want. Or you could message NSK and ask her to put you on the list?? Just explain that you are very keen but are heading off to bed. I am sure it will still be active in the morning. Don't lose sleep over it.
    ;)

Plumbing is not that simple, don't do your skills a disservice scubaangel. My Dad was showing me stuff with all the copper pipes and things and it looked very complicated. If it was that simple, then plumbers would be out of business as everyone would be doing it themselves (except me as I would still be getting my daddy to do it).
    :p

Ooooooh. I might try making jam tarts at some point with the lattice pretty topping thing.

I would love to try and make macarons and, in the very very distant future, a croquembush ( see, it's the bloomin' masterchef australia again).

macarons (this is a macaron tower as modelled by zumbo and matt preston):

croquembush (I would also like to attempt the gingerbread house):

I have the zumbo book but his recipes are
