Wow. House looks in good nick. Don't like the stairs though. Would have to have a banister to help me drag myself upstairs (arthritic knees and only 45!!)

The stairs are illegal. (can't think of the right word) so they would need to be ripped out and planning permission sought to put in proper ones.
It has a wood boring insect problem and damp... but it is going for £200k less than it should (based on similar houses).

So whilst it would take a lot of work to make it perfect, houses like this in our area will never really be in our price range. The plan is to now focus on paying off our debt. It is so disappointing but I suppose, if I had thought about my finances earlier then I would have been in a much better position. You live, you learn I suppose.
    :undecided

At least work is going well... although I am supposed to be in charge tomorrow which is hilarious. I have only been there three days. (however, I am the most experienced person there, apart from the auxillaries of course).

Well done on another SFD, all the steps, baking homemade treats, and taking on an extra shift! I am really impressed and very jealous stewby.

I think what's meant to be, will be, with the house :) as you say not getting it will allow you to debt bust and set you up for a debt free future.

I am determined to stay in all day today and try and get a SFD as I've only done 1/4 so far :( wish me luck!!

sorry to hear about the house hun :(

you never know though, there maybe another in a similar condition that would go for a similar price in the future and by sorting your finances now you will be ready to snap it up when it does :)

I get that nagging feeling quite a lot - if only I understood where my debts would lead me I never would have allowed myself to get into debt in the first place - but you can't keep kicking yourself - the House is nice (apart from those stairs :)) and the garden amazing but as others have said - something always comes along! And the next one will be bigger, better, a more fun challenge (no wood-munching insects) and YOU will be the agreed buyer!

Positive mental attitude! You are doing so well since you started your diary on here and since joining NSK's challenge - it will be worth it!

Big hugs cause I think you are doing amazingly! :)

Obviously planning rules are different in Scotland. In England/Wales you would simply replace the stairs without having to inform anyone as it is classed as a major repair, so dosn't require planning permission.

Evening and thank you all for your replies. I hope you are right clippy_girl and cottage_retreatist regarding a house in the future. It was just so beautiful. Will just have to focus on our future and hopefully be rewarded at some point.
    :p

fmess: hiya. the homebaking has lasted us for several days so I am planning on doing that again. The wee chocolate fix stopped me from going to the shop for a treat so it was a brilliant idea.
    :D

I hope you were successful in your sfd fmess.
    :)

I am glad other people get the same niggling feeling. I was beginning to think it was just me kicking myself all the time.
    :(

Thank you very much for the hugs c_r.
    *hugs* in return.

postman99: The home report specified that you would have to seek planning permission. I assume it's because the two attics rooms were not in the original plans, the owners had the attic converted.

today has been pretty interesting. I let the "confident" nurse take charge and I just hung back and helped when need be. (obviously I did work but none of the boss-stuff). However, I did give handover for the first time which was pretty cool.
    :)

I am beginning to unwind now which is pretty awesome. Work is amazing. My stress is reducing everyday. I am feeling great.
    :D

Oh, yeah. Today I have walked 9050 steps.
    :j

Erm... confession time. It is not a sfd as I bought OH and me a dominos pizza. (well, I did say we would have one this month).
    :o

We are going shopping tomorrow so definitely no spend-free day there either. We are going to try and get some bargains from tescimos so will go at roundabout 18:00 as that seems to be the recommended time on here.... so fingers crossed for some yellow labels.

    Hey stewby

Glad your new work is much better than the old and congrats on the extra shift! I think with all your hard word, you and OH deserve a dominoes!

Another SFD I'm afraid. I am rubbish at SFDs! Will try again tomorrow but am nearly out of social money so won't be able to say yes to anything else, even if I want to!

I have been listing items for sale online today and doing surveys so fingers crossed I might make some money this month.

Also decided to try lose weight as had a bad result on my cholesterol test at work yesterday :( Aiming for 14lbs by New Year :)

If you are going to a big T3scos tomorrow remember it'll close at 4pm on Sundays :(

SFD for me. :D Sort of.

Then again I don't count the entry fees for my sport relief events - 1.5km swim and a 3mile run.

One planned takeaway meal sounds entirely reasonable given you spent the day doing an extra shift. Glad the new job is suiting you so far, nothing better than coming home from work and being happy and relaxed about the idea of going back again.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
