You don't have by any chance a wooden toy kitchen for sale on ebay? Just thinking loudly, I need to regain my drawer and cupboard from toddler Kavics...

Sadly not. Just about everything else though! :D

    I love toddler kavics, she's adorable. I bet she's a right character :)

    Morning everyone :)

Had a busy morning so far as little jwil is having a lie in.

    So far I've done:
    • a load of washing and hung it,
    • hoovered through,
    • taken photos of another box of items for ebay (173 items ),
    • packed 2 sales and withdrawn £7.49 from paypal
    • caught up with a few surveys (will continue this throughout the day)
    • Started sorting out the boxes of stuff listed on ebay, one box emptied so far

A couple of years ago, I got a complete OU degree course from Freecycle. It is a science and maths degree and consists of probably a couple of hundred books, a quantity of videos and tapes and assorted other booklets.

It's taking up a lot of space, so I've decided it's time to look through and get rid. So I've pulled all of that out, and am going to start working through it course by course. I'm not going to study it thoroughly as I would with a normal OU course, but have a quick read through the books and see what I can pick up. Hopefully that way it won't take me as long as a normal OU degree

I'm not sure what I'll do with it when I'm done as it's quite old now. I'll probably see if a charity wants it, and if not, I guess it will have to go for recycling. There's not much point in putting it on Freecycle again as it was on there for weeks before I decided to ask for it.

Little jwil is waking up now, so better go and get him. I'm going to try and get some listing done today so will see how I get on.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi jwil. How do you manage to take photos of 173 things in such a short space of time?
It takes me ages to photograph and the editing takes ages too.

    Hi Tattycath,

I don't edit my photos, just take the best I can and leave it.

The things I'm listing at the moment in bulk, are all very similar, and just need a basic picture. It's very much point and shoot.

As an example (it's not what I'm selling, but works in the same way): If I have 300 copies of Vogue magazine, I'll pile them all up next to me, take a picture one at a time, and box them up. I just take one picture where the front cover fills the whole picture and all the details can be seen.

I already know the condition they are in as I've read them and disposed of any tatty ones.

I then upload the pictures to my computer, save them in a folder named 'vogue magazine' and then list from there as appropriate.

When I come to list them, I list them in the order I've taken the photos, getting the information from the photo - eg date and issue number. I put all that in the title, then have a standard description for condition, as there's not much to say. I always understate the condition rather than overstate it. I.e., they may look as new, but I'll say they look read.

They are all essentially the same item, so have the same postage costs so I don't need to look that up each time.

So when I upload that one, I just carry on using 'sell similar' changing the date and issue in the title, and using the next photo in the folder.

That's how I get the bulk stuff done and what I've been doing when I get loads on on one time. It works well if you've got loads of similar items (which of course is unlikely when you are not clearing someone's hoard!).

With my individual items, it obviously takes much longer and there is more detail needed for each listing. I still don't edit photos though :o

Maybe I will try just doing more basic photos without editing...
Sometimes I think my descriptions are too descriptive. If I'm selling vogue magazines (for example) I will put the title, date and issue number in title and in description I'll put everything that's in it-copied from the info on the front cover. But to be honest the info is all there on the picture! Doh!
I will probably get more listed if I don't try so hard maybe? :o
I have been know to take 3 hours editing and listing. If I didn't edit and wasn't so anal in my descriptions I would probably double productivity! :)
Thanks jwil... I shall try a different approach and see what happens.

I used to do that, but then I realised that no one ever reads the description anyway! I've had 3 neutrals and 1 neg in my time, and for all but one neutral, the 'issue' was written in the description.

So now I try and put as much as I can in the title, and then any extra info in the description.

I think you've got to decide on whether the item is worth it.

If it's an expensive item, then the extra time may get you more bids so it's probably worth it, but for an item that's going to sell for a couple of ££ then to me it's not worth it.

I do of course make sure that there are photos of any faults etc and do describe my items accurately.

  • Well done Jwil, you do so well, you leave me in awe of how much you get done! I'm glad to hear that clearing some of it has made some space and you can start to see that you're getting somewhere :D :T

    Thanks DFW :)

Well an unexpected afternoon off today as little jwil isn't very well :( So got called to pick him up. We had a terrible night last night so presumably he was brewing something. Taking him to the docs in a bit.

I don't really feel like doing anything though, so just sat decluttering magazines while he was having a nap and now just mooching around as he's quite happily playing at the mo.

I did manage to get another 17 items listed yesterday. That means I've smashed my target for this month :T

They are saying on the ebay board that it's another invite only free listing weekend this weekend for 4 days, Sat til Tuesday. So it's worth keeping an eye on your email/ebay accounts. I haven't seen anything in any of mine yet.
