Need to save £10k in 12 months, doable? I really hope so

Well that's me a year since I started this diary and sadly I didn't save £10k. Partly because I wasn't focused enough and let things slide.
I'm not too upset, I wanted to have £18k by now and the account currently stands at £14,940.
DH and I have decided to extend our challenge till March so 6 months to save £3060.00 at £510 a month this should be more manageable starting October.
Coming into winter I need to be more organized as this is the time of year when it's easy to get lazy and start spending on takeaways etc.
Going to meal plan this evening for the coming week as it is a busy week with after school activity's, a meeting at school and working till 6pm this week (very unusual for me).0 -
I think you've done amazingly! Well done on doing so well!
I do feel for you parents, there always seems to be some school trip to pay out for. Thinking back, I went on so many and never thought about the cost once! Feel like I should probably go apologise to my mum now ha ha0 -
Thanks killerpeaty. School trips are expensive, DD is at secondary and I hear that in 5th year there is a trip to New York at £18000 . Thankfully she is only in 2nd year so don't have to think about it but saying that the last trip she went on was £145.
Well I weighed myself last night 9st12so need to get shot of the weight.
So this morning I had fruit and Greek yoghurt. However we are out for dinner for a family birthday, thankfully all paid for by family but it's a well known American food place with the word Friday in it so lots of fatty food on the menu.
Will need to get milk today but should be a lsd.0 -
£18000?? Do you mean £1800....even so it's a  from me but £18k is wow! LOL xx
My son is in year 11 (my eldest) and it's so expensive funding all these school trips! I can't wait until he's finished! I've spent about £700 just this last year on all the little extras he's needed. It was honestly cheaper when he was at boarding school- I'd rather him home obviously but there are so many hidden extras with his new school it's amazing!
I wish I were 9st 12....I need to lose weight and have been super good and have put on weight. Not fair!
How's the savings going? Mine keep getting hindered every month. Think I need to re-focus a littlexx

Sorry missed this when I asked how the savings were going *d'oh*. I think having saved nearly £15k is nothing to be sniffed at and you've done amazingly well :T I have a few more grand I need to add to mine too but savings don't seem to be very easy when I'm trying to get emergency funds/car funds/xmas/ etc/etc /etc :rotfl: all up and running alongside the house fund! I do wonder if I should put all those on hold until I reach £15k but then knowing my luck we'd have a real emergency:eek:

It does seem a bit unfair that schools set up these ridiculous trips without any consideration to the parents. In college, I went on a few trips (read loads) that were cheap, I just needed to travel there. There were things like lectures and conferences or meeting with phd students.
dfw, I think your different savings pots are a great idea, I'm sure that you'll get on track soon.0 -

Lol yes that was a typo £1,800 NOT £18,000 that would just be ridiculous :rotfl:0 -
Not long in from dinner and my am I stuffed. Enjoyed it though, even more so that it was all paid for by someone else.
Got milk £1.00 and needed petrol so £20.00.
Tomorrow is DH pay day. Will need to get money out for the gas and elect meters but other than that I shouldn't need to buy anything.
Going to slob about for the evening as I have no energy to do anything after all that nice but rubbish food I ate tonight.0 -
Had melon for breakfast today but lunch is left over pizza from yesterday. Naughty I know but I hate seeing the pizza geo to waste and they are always too big to actually finish when at TGIF.
Walked down to the cash machine, will say it's not very far but walked instead of taking the car. Took £100 out to do gas and elc this month.
Very dull here but is fairly warm.
Going to do a wash this afternoon and get it hung out.
Work tomorrow and Friday, had to split this weeks shifts as have a meeting at school one day this week.
Dinner will be burgers, I bought some lovely Aberdeen angus ones, I won't have a bin with mine and will have plenty of salad with it.0 -
Busy busy few days.
Went shopping today spent £62 but that's for the week so pleased with that.
Got another washing hung outside today. Can't believe we are in October all ready. Weather is supposed to be bad tomorrow so won't get a washing put but as I am at work it won't bother me if it rains all day.
Got my sisters birthday (hate October lots of birthdays including mine lol) so out for dinner at hers though shouldn't be too bad spends wise only need to take a present and wine.
Going to sort through the cupboard this weekend and see what winter jackets, hats, scarf and welly boots we have and what needs replaced.0
