No I wouldn't. Because it wouldn't have felt that it was about ME. They are collating information with regard to performance to show that I deserve to be paid the same as my colleague. The middle management are behind me and are validating my concerns. Gender hasn't come into it.
If it doesn't go as I want it to? I honestly don't know.

Out of interest, do you think you would have come away from the situation feeling just as upbeat about it if you had been handed a pay increase "because you're a woman" as opposed to because you took control of the situation, handled it constructively, and your performance and value to the organisation was recognised as a result?
I don't think anyone here advised OP to ask for a pay increase "because she's a woman".
The original issue raised was that OP was paid less than a male colleague doing the same job despite her better performance.
My advice was certainly to take control of the situation and handle it constructively by highlighting her performance and the value of her work (with support or advice from her union rep if required), knowing that the law was on her side because under the Equality Act the employer has a duty to justify any pay difference for work of equal value with a legitimate business reason. Knowledge is power, as they say, and knowing this may well have given OP more confidence when raising the issue.
She could of course have chosen to barge into the manager's office and demand a pay increase "because she's a woman", but that would just be silly.0 -
And that, Southend1, is the point I was trying to make.
Equality should be about giving women the tools and belief they need to make them feel equal and valued, not giving them charitable donations that encourage them to feel inferior.
Which, of course, Sue, is the point I was trying to make.

Today at work 3 members of my senior management had a meeting to discuss what was to happen next.
They are all fully supportive and are preparing the facts and figures to put forward to the MD.
I have found the experience very empowering and have found it very interesting what everything has had to say.

Well, had a meeting with HR today. They have been liaising with MD.
MD will look at the next pay review, not before, and re-evaluate my pay scale.
Was advised that I won't get exactly the same, as some of the differential is 'historical'.
Will just have to wait and see I suppose. Feel somewhat deflated now...Smoke Free since 1 January 20130 -
