No, I didn't misunderstand. I read what you had written. You have now chosen to change what you have written.

No you have misinterpreted what I have written. I'm talking averages not individuals. Clearly where collective agreements on pay are in place non union members benefit too ("free riding")

It's a possibility that could occur where job evaluation, performance reviews etc are not implemented correctly. Do you know if there is any evidence to support that view?
It appears much of the public sector aims for mediocrity due to collective pay deals. The bright ones tend to leave as they cannot get paid what they are worth.

You are confusing the changes in employment law and the workplace with salaries which for the last time I will say no union can have any baring for the individual when they work in a company with only 20 staff.

For the last time I will say that even employees of small companies can benefit from collective bargaining. I know we disagree on this so let's not go off topic here on this thread.

I thought there had to be so many people in the union for this to take place? Surely 20 or less wont work?

Plus do you really think an FD on 90k gives too stuffs if the office junior gets £16k and a 0.5% pay rise? Probably not. OR the area manager on £50k cares that much that person a gets 0%?

How about doctors, university vice chancellors, council executives etc earning well in excess of £100k?

No, for statutory recognition it's a percentage of the bargaining unit, not a number of people.

The FD may well not be part of the same bargaining unit as the office junior.

Many employers also recognise a union voluntarily because they believe it is good practice to do so

I doubt the FD would be haha

    What percentage then?

I don't get how anyone seriously thinks that if 10 people get 4% and 5 people get 3% , 4 people get 1% and 1 person gets 0% that if you have a collective anything the company are going to magic some more ££££ out of a magic hat and all 20 will get 4%.

I have to go off to laugh now..................
