Also, on average, union members are paid around 16% more than non union members in the UK.

No you have misinterpreted what I have written.

What's to misinterpret? It seems fairly definitive to me!

How about doctors, university vice chancellors, council executives etc earning well in excess of £100k?
I believe most senior council execs are on dodgy self employed contracts. Like the BBC.

I doubt the FD would be haha

    What percentage then?

I don't get how anyone seriously thinks that if 10 people get 4% and 5 people get 3% , 4 people get 1% and 1 person gets 0% that if you have a collective anything the company are going to magic some more ££££ out of a magic hat and all 20 will get 4%.

I have to go off to laugh now..................

    50% + 1 of the bargaining unit

The union must have 10% membership

I know you don't get it, but we have had this discussion before and still disagree.

This thread is going badly off topic!

Ok so imagine an economy where there are only 3 companies, each with 10 employees.

Company 1 has union recognition and collective bargaining for pay. 6 of the 10 employees are union members. All employees are paid £10ph.

Company 2 and 3 have no union recognition and their employees are paid £7ph.

The average wage in the economy is £8ph.

The average union member's wage is £10ph.

The average non union member wage is £7.50ph.

Union members earn on average £2.50 or 33% more per hour.

However in the company with union recognition, non members are paid the same as members.

This is how union members can be paid more than non union members while non union members still benefit from collective bargaining, where it applies to wage negotiations.

As above, union members earn more on average than non members. Unfortunately many people don't fully understand the benefits, so choose not to be union members.

LOL Yeah ok no one I worked with was on less than £13 per hour and no on in a union!

You must seem to think if you join a union the company you work for suddenly get a unlimited purse with lots of cash in it

Like I keep saying there are no benefits in joining an union and no one will change my mind on that or all my friends :)

they are? I thought they were NHS as per the BIG sign outside my doctors

no idea what AIUI is but still

    From NHS careers website:

"Most GPs are independent contractors to the NHS. This independence means that in most cases, they are responsible for providing adequate premises from which to practise and for employing their own staff."

AIUI= as I understand it (apologies for lazy acronyms!)
