I think if you try step outside yourself and look in honestly, I don't think its so much the actual money, inasmuch as what it represents, that is how you have been treated and discarded. The money is still a 'link' to her and a way for you to vent your anger and resentment towards her. If you have approached her in a civil way and she is refusing, is it anything you have proof of? Is there a contract between you with her agreeing to pay you back? If not, let it go and learn from this. In future any lending of money, no matter who it is, get a contract in place.
I see what your saying but I simply can't afford to pay the amount she's trying to leave me owing and its also the principle. I can prove what I paid into the account, but she's got all the statement, bills etc she made sure to take them when she left. I can't even afford small claims to resolve this so am left on my own fighting my own battles, whilst her mum who works for a solicitors has probably got all the advice in the world!0 -
if you are planning onkeeping the house get her name off it as soon as - you dont want to be a couple of years down the line and her suddenly coming back into your life saying she wants half the house as her name is still on it
Luckily we rented, I walked out the day I found out and only returned for my things.0 -

Try reasoning with her, only you know whether this is possible. Legally, was there ever an agreement as to what bills would be paid out of that account? Is there a stipulation that sky etc was not to be paid out of there? She could argue that she paid up what bills she could. Maybe there is a legal person on here who could assist you. :kisses3:0 -

All bills were to be paid from that account, but she was tied into Sky until this Nov & BT until May '08, but instead used that £400 to pay them off. What I'm trying to say is surely she can't use that money to do that when she brought the relationship to an end? As the contracts were in her name, surely she has to continue to pay for them out of her own pocket? As it stands I've effectively paid half of Sky & BT for the next 6-12months!0 -

If that is recorded in writing or she agrees that this was so, then you stand a chance of a refund, however, I think hell with freeze over before you get a penny. Unless you take it to court and spend hundreds if not thousands. While £400 is a lot of money, its not worth the stress, further financial loss and the effect on your health.0 -

She's already put it in writing that the money was used to clear her contractual obgligations...0
