Your boss must have known about this for about 6 months, so why not have a go at them for not making alternative arrangements for the day - homeworking/early start and finish/arranging to park some way away and walking the last bit in.

But seeing as you're having the day off, why not go and watch it? You might actually find it's not 'pathetic' at all, but live, competitive sport at it's best and for free.

How do you know what the employment is and ultimately it is not the employers responsibility for employees to get to and from work.

The employer has compromised by allow the OP not to work that day albeit unpaid.

If its retail or wholesale the employer is probably taking a hit on this day as well in sales to start.

Tremendous victory for Bradley Wiggins today takes him into the overall lead.

I'd have been out watching... as it was, was glued to the tv instead.
  • Totally understand your annoyance and having to try and rearrange work etc, but.... could you not go to work like normal, yes trapped for abit longer but still get paid for your time and can one of the other parents who has kids in that class/classes take the kids home for you to have a play date or tea or something? The kids must have best friends or something in the class/classes and then pick them up like an hour later or something? I'm sure most parents with kids in the classes would understand your situation as i'm sure they've been stuck at times just say you owe them one and will repay them when they get stuck with picking the kids up from school? There must be someone, prob not your ideal choice but for the sake of an hour or so? Unless you dont trust any of the parents or know them at all and dont feel comfortable, but i'm sure your kids must of been to other kids houses etc. Just a suggestion.
