I would also endorse a DE razor. I use a Merkur Progress get a better shave than I did with my Mach 3 and its a lot cheaper.
Why on earth did people fall for marketing gimmicks like multiple blades when you only need one also they seem to get worse as time goes on I tried a Fusion before I switched to DE and it was the most useless piece of junk I have ever used.0 -
Seems like there are a lot of merkur fans on here.
I also started off with a cheap razor and then graduated to a Merkur Futur.
I got a years worth of assorted blades from eBay for £5 as well0 -
I am female and buy the men disposable razors. Ladies' razor blades more expensive than men's. You just pay for them being pretty.
I use baby lotion to smoothe my legs.0 -
I've tried various over the years, electric and bladed. Spent over £200 on a whizzy Philips rotary shaver which I liked for a couple of years but did give me a rash on my neck quite often. The posh multi bladed razors like Gillette Mach 3 just clog with hairs easily. I have now settled on the orange single bladed bic disposables which I find give a nice clean shave and do not clog. My grandad used to use them too when he was alive - I wish I had followed his lead years ago before spending £££ on expensive gimmicks0

Woman may complain about their once a month inconvenience, but I'd rather that, then having to shave everyday.
I'm assuming you'd be a woman with hairy armpits, legs, and a forest sprouting from the sides of your bikini.
Not sure about men's razors/blades, but I'd advise against getting the female ones from poundshops. I got some (German) Wilkinson Sword, disposable razors from one (can't remember which) and they were unusable.
It was like shaving with a razor that had disappeared down the back of the toilet two years ago (I never did that). I imagine a blunt breadknife would have less drag on it.

Dropped in here yesterday to find out whether anyone had discovered a solution to the Great Razor Rip Off. Lots of useful suggestions.
I'm another of those who finds that anything other than a multi-blade/Fusion style razor ends up nicking my skin. I've tried the King of Shaves razors (try searching or the Sainsburys . com site, as newbie I can't post a link) which are OK but don't seem to last very long and although their prices were lower than Fusions a couple of months ago, when I bought my first set, they seem just as expensive as the others now.
However, when I was in Sainsbury's I came across their own-brand Advance System Razors which are on offer £3.32 for a handle + blade and £3.99 (offer price, usually £5.99) for a refill pack of 4. The razors are 6 bladed and after using them for the first time this morning my first impression is that they're almost as good as the Fusions. Again search sainsburys . com for details (advance system razors didn't work as a search term, just search for razors.)
Incidentally, I checked prices for the King of Shaves blades in Boots and Sainsbury's. Oddly in both shops the price on the display stand was missing. Probably coincidence but possibly an over zealous sales rep hoping that people would buy in any case, thinking the prices were still low, if he removed the labels? I have informed Scotland Yard just in case0
