go in aldi or lidl and get their blades - as good but a quarter of the price

I rarely if ever disagree about the benefits of shopping in places like Lidl but I found their own brand razor/blade set awful. Like shaving with a pumice stone (not that I've even done that, but I have imagination:D)

I use the Mach 3 turbo, and although it is much more expensive than I'd like, it's the one that seems to leave my skin feeling better than others. I have Wilkinson's Sword traditional razor but I don't like it much.

Double Edged safety razors are not for everyone, and when you start getting into it, it has a huge upfront cost and a learning curve that puts many off.

Plus to get a close save you usually have to do 3 passes in various cross grain shaving. But I can't imagine ever going back to a multiblade system, the single razor blade works just fine and doesn't tug or pull like my multi did.

I swapped into a cheapie DE razor to try it out then moved up once figured that I was saving far far far more money in the long run and it was something that I could perfect and learn during a unproductive time of the day.

I currently use Aldi's own Lacura, which is about £2.49 for the razor and three blades and then £2.99 for six blades thereafter.

However, reading about some of you vintage shaving fans has made me a bit nostalgic and i've just dug out my grandmother's 1950s blue compact plastic razor. I don't think i would dare use it though in case i break it, but i love the idea of getting rid of the expense and utility of a modern razor and going back to using something vintage. I don't think I dare do a cut throat razor, but a quality vintage safety razor and brush i could.

I think somewhere in the process of making our possessions more functional and efficient we lost the ability to take pleasure from using them. If that makes sense?

I second the razorpit, available from amazon. At the end of each shave you just a very small amt shaving foam and then move the blade along the razorpit a few times, it's supposed to clean all the grease of the blades which extends the life of the blade. I was sceptical but thought id give it a try as the mach3 turbo blades had become very expensive, each blade now lasts a good couple of months...so much so that it's hard to remember exactly when I started a new blade last! Doesn't affect blade quality either. Well worth a punt!

Oh dear, I'm going to leave a comment but I'm a female! My DH (deceased) used to use a Fusion. Once he'd used it half a dozen times or so it would be too blunt for him to use on his beard but it was perfect for my "bits" (armpits, legs, bikini line). So we got another handle and he used to save his old blades for me. When he died there were 3 new blades left which I have been using. After they'd all gone I bought various different ladies razors but they were rubbish compared to the Fusion. So last time I went shopping I bought a set of 4 blades. Oh bliss. A decent shave.

Am very interested in the Razorpit. I will be investigating!

Would highly reccomend the razorpit, as I said I was sceptical but it really does make the blades last so much longer.

I tried downshifting brands of blade but hated them, the Mach turbo was so much better but was expensive. This just means you buy less of them but still get the quality.

I shave a couple of times a week and also shave my head at least once a week and find that paying out for the fusions makes a lot of sense as I get around a month out of each blade. I shave in the shower and even though I have really sensitive skin I use asda own brand gel and a good aftershave cream for best results.
Little hint if you want to get an extra shave out of your blade, run it under cold water first as this tightens the blade and give a little more life.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

Same here, nothing comes close to Fusions when it comes to 'not shredding my face to a bloody pulp', and I've tried most of the other brands. Mach3/5 aren't bad as an alternative but these are pretty pricey too.

Whenever i'm in a supermarket I make a b-line to the razor section to see if there are any special offers on, and stock up on a few if I think they're worth it (ie around the £2 a blade mark).

I'm another person, who simply cannot use cheap blades and have to use Fusions. Even then, I need sensitive shaving gel/foam and my face has to be absolutely sopping wet before I attempt to shave. I also can't use them till they should need replacing, I find 5 shaves or so and I need another blade.

I get the pack when they are on offer, but even then it is still very expensive.

I hate shaving with a passion, but have to nearly everyday for my job, which includes having to work many weekends.

Woman may complain about their once a month inconvenience, but I'd rather that, then having to shave everyday. :p
  • Fusion blades here too and also recommend the Razorpit.

Also Highly recommend the following shave cream. Works great with the Fusion and leaves skin very moisturised and smells nice.

    http://www.realshaving.com/products/the-shave/traditional-moisturising-shave-cream/

I think it is £5.99 in Boots, But if you haver a HomeBargains near you, I pick it up there for I Think either £1.29 or £1.99.

After shave balm is really good too.

Shave in the shower, with a jug of hot water, so no mess in the cubicle.
