Razor blades

Surely it cannot just be me? Why oh, why are razor blades so expensive? I've had a shop around and managed get hold of three Gillette blades for £5; I also got an unwanted flag and loads of unnecessary plastic packaging included. I cannot understand why three little strips of metal costs so much? Am I missing something or are Gillette and their like simply ripping us of; a bit like the printer ink cartridge suppliers do.
After these three precious blades are worn out I'm going to rummage around to find my old dad's safety razor and buy some blades for it. Hopefully I won't need a small bank load to do so.

Where do you think the printer companies got the business model from?
If you buy a no-name handle that works with own-brand heads (eg superdrug or Morrisons or something) you'll save a mint.
Also - try to avoid bluntening blades so fast - shave in the shower, for instance, seems to make a big difference.0 -
Gillette's Dictum:
Give them the razor, sell them the blades.
You've just seen it in action
Try Poundland & the 99p shop places- You'll sometimes find branded blades there, although they may be for older models.

I use an electric [STRIKE]shaver[/STRIKE] rotavator during the week, heads and blades cost £17 a year.
On Sunday, wet trim using brush, soap and disposables at £2 for ten. use once!0 -

BICs appear a lot in these, 10 for £1 and seem just as good as any Gillette/WilkinsoSword blades.
+1 for shaving at the right time, straight after shower for me as skin is softer.0 -
go in aldi or lidl and get their blades - as good but a quarter of the price

Me too, it seems to be by far the cheapest option that gives a decent shave.0 -
I use a cutthroat razor and find it to be the most comfortable shave yet. The initial outlay of the razor (with strop and hone, if you intend on maintaining it yourself) can be quite expensive, but if well cared for will last the rest of your life.
The safety razors are a good call too, but make sure you use the old style shaving-foam (not the pathetic excuse in a can) or shaving soap and get a brush, etc. This will ensure you get a proper lather and make shaving a little more enjoyable.Make it happen.0 -
+1 for brush and soap, BTW. Saves money, waaaaaaayy better choice of smells, and the brush raises the bristle to make the shave easier.0

The same reason they segment the market into "men's razors" and "women's razors", and the use 5+ blades (only one of them is actually useful). We fool for it.0
