Something I only discovered after about 14 years of shaving. Have a look at the "better" disposables that the name brand manufacturers do. I only shave every week or so (tidying up around a beard), so I need a decent razor, and I really get on well with the 3-blade Wilkinson Sword ones. I seem to remember paying under a fiver for a decent sized pack of them at Morrisons. Personally, I prefer them to my Mach 3.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

OH very sensitive skin with shaving. He's been using the Gillette Fusion for years as it's the only one that he doesn't get cuts with or a bright red dry face after shaving.

Experimented with different foams/gels & soaps over the years and he always shaves in the shower but it's the razor that causes the damage. He doesn't see to go through that many blades anymore as he no longer shaves daily now he's a man of leisure!

I use the old fashioned double edge blades.
They are around £2 for 10 blades

Me too. Admitted this wasn't for money saving purposes as I must own about £700 worth of vintage razors :o.

A double edge razor set up will cost you more to begin with but as Fishingtime said the blades are much cheaper. I also found, as an added bonus, I got a much better shave too.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

    Same for me

Some good razors in remarkable condition considering they are over 50 years old on eb**

Favourite, Gillette Slim adjustable from the early 60s

Blades, I'm lucky Derbys suit me and my razors.

Just returned from our annual holiday in Turkey, sleeve of Derbys 20x5 = 100 blades, less than £5

I really wish that there was a cheap barber in town who does cut throat shaves. I had two done last week in Egypt for £3 each, the first one included a threading session! I never knew my ears were so hairy.

Same here, nothing comes close to Fusions when it comes to 'not shredding my face to a bloody pulp', and I've tried most of the other brands. Mach3/5 aren't bad as an alternative but these are pretty pricey too.

Whenever i'm in a supermarket I make a b-line to the razor section to see if there are any special offers on, and stock up on a few if I think they're worth it (ie around the £2 a blade mark).

  • I've got some vintage safety razors but I tend to cut myself when I'm sleepy :p

I do however subscribe to the King of shaves service (was mentioned on here) - you can do it monthly or bi monthly the 4 blade version in £3 for 4 and the 5 blade is £4 for 5.

Have to say I've been very happy with the blades.
  • My OH always buys his Fusion blades from Costco, I think he gets 18 (?) blades, plus the handle (I have about 5 in my bathroom cabinet that he won't throw away grrrrrr) for about £23

Give the RazorPit a look. I got one a few years back, and it is a god send. It's meant to clean and sharpen the Razor after you've used it. A razor blade will now last me at least a month or even two.

I know it's a foreign site, but it available in the UK.
