I wonder how big your microholding is and what you are growing.

Could you sell vegetables & eggs at farmers markets or parish fetes. Could you make jams, pickles and pretty pot pouri bags to sell at Christmas markets.

Perhaps a relative would look after the children for the day or the older ones could help you on the stall if its a Saturday. It's actually a fun day out and great for pulling together as a team. Take a packed lunch.

You might have second hand ornaments at home that you could sell on the stall too or things you might E-bay.

You could potentially earn £100 in a day depending on your profit margin and number of people visiting the market. Stall fees vary considerably circa £30 a day.

If you don't mind telling relatives about your situation, you could explain and ask them for any old ornaments or bits they want to clear out but to give them to you for your stall. You could offer to give them 50% of the profit. Some items might be peanuts but you'll be showing willing and I bet most folk would say, "I don't want anything for it, I'm glad to be shot of it! "

Is an actual reaction to my posts, so please don't rely on anything I say. :)

AlexLK, you are quite right that does sound rather harsh, and a little judgmental. To be fair I don't think many of us got into debt with a clear idea of the mess and heartache we were letting ourselves in for.

Very small, feel proud of yourselves for facing up to your issues and committing to dealing with them. There are loads of supportive people on here and if your not telling your family about you problems then we will make an excellent sounding board for you

There are many different challenges you can join which actually make it a bit of fun and give you loads of ideas for day to day living. There are old style thrift boards which offer tons of recipe information to help you stretch you food budget amongst other things. And most of all a whole host of people who are in the same boat and know exactly how your feeling and just want to help.

So chin up chick and no more crying. The hardest part is over and the rest will get easier I promise.

Take care and hope to see you around the boards

Couldn't run and leave, as others have said you have taken the first and hardest step, I'm with stepchange, just over a year and the difference it makes is life changing,..

    Take care xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • You're in a tough place atm, but as others have said you've taken the hardest step, which is stopping, realising your position and facing up to the task.

You can only do this together, so don't blame yourselves or each other.

When I look back I felt our position was hopeless, facing losing the house, marriage, everything due to the anxiety and sleeplessness our debt (£116k) was causing us both.

That was in 2005, and we'll be free of debt (not mortgage of course) next September. You will both have to be patient and strong, but together you'll pull through.

Good luck, and I look forward to reading a good news post from you in the future.
