  • I just wanted to wish you good luck and well done for taking the first steps which can sometimes be the hardest to make.

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.
  • OP, you have taken a massive step. Sometimes these things creep up on us. The best thing is that you have pride and you are facing this together. So, you got into a fix. You can get out of it. It will take time but you can. Never under-estimate the effect of small children. They are precious but they can have a dramatic effect on a families finances.

Keep the faith, you will be OK. You are doing exactly the right thing.

Hi there, I can only reiterate what others have said. You have already made such a huge step in realising and starting to make changes to improve your situation. It is so so hard at first and you do feel a sense of shame but you will get out of it by taking small steps. You aren't alone and the support here is amazing.

  • Thank you so much all for your kind and encouraging words. I am not sure how to quote people yet, but I did read all of your messages today and am just now having the time, as the children have gone to sleep, to reply.

It does feel comforting that we are not alone, but also sad that so many others have found themselves in the same position as us. I would like to give my support too the people that replied that are struggling as well.

This afternoon I did a menu plan for the rest of the month using all the freezer food and store cupboard supplies and will only need to buy fresh dairy, fruit and vegetables. I know it doesnt help with the debt, but it will make our budget go further.

DH and I are about to sit down for the evening and formulate our spending plan. Feels like we are actually doing something tonight, not just crying. :)

That is how it helps the debt :) Good luck on your journey to debt freedom......it will be a roller coaster but you will get there.

Well done verysmall! You are already getting into the MSE mindset. Believe me you will feel so much better soon. Just the fact that you are doing something about the problem makes things better. It's a positive step towards a better future. You and DH are working together as a team to tackle this and that will make a huge difference too. Good Luck.

    It's very easy.

At the bottom of each post are 6 buttons.

The second from the left is labelled "Quote".

To quote a post, click the "Quote" button, and a new posting window opens, with the original post between two sets of square brackets, containing the following.

    QUOTE=the poster's name;a number

    AND

    /QUOTE

Delete anything from the original post you don't want to quote, then type your reply, starting as a new paragraph, below the quoted post.

NB. The words "the poster's name" and "a number" will be replaced with the actual poster's name and an actual number.

    Hi there,

This is probably going to sound rather harsh but I am quite perplexed by your post.

First of all I am sorry to hear about your situation. However, you must have realised this was coming? I am aware there is a fine line between spending enough time with your children and earning a living but surely you realised in your situation you couldn't just be a stay-at-home-mum?

In my mind you need to face the debts (which you have done, well done :)), stick to the payment plan and start earning some money (whether that be employed or self employed).
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500
  • You won't feel this at the moment, but this is one of those life changing situations. You will emerge from this, and you will get through it, a stronger, wiser person.

You will be fine. Just look at my signature, I was in the same boat and managed to paddle my way out of the mess. Is it easy? Not at first, but you soon learn to live within your budget.

    Then one day......your free.

  • Good luck verysmall, when you are struggling, remember to come back to the board for help, advice or just a good old rant / moan :)
