Just back from test driving the Suzuki Swift Diesel.
Drove the same route at the same speed as for the Skoda and Hyundai, it's 20 degrees and dry so conditions are better and I drove without a salesman for company so knock 90 KG off the weight
However, I hadn't realised but the air con was on for half the ~20 mile route!
According to the OBC it returned 97 MPG for the journey.
I am skeptical but it's pretty impressive, if I decide to go for one of these I will be taking a longer test drive to get a more accurate idea.
They had an ex demo model they were willing to knock £1,600 off, it's a month old with 2k on the clock, seem much more interested in my business than the other dealers.
Car seems pretty solid, better than the Hyundai.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

I have a 2year old Swift SZ4 automatic, from new - replacing a Swift 1.5 GLX automatic
My wife has just taken delivery of a brand new Swift SZ4 automatic (vat free + extra £600 cash discount) - so maybe I am slightly biased
but I RATE THESE SWIFTS !!
We average 50 mpg in the 1.2 93bhp ones - which is pretty good for an automatic petrol car
The Diesel should be a plodder - but evidently has a petrol-like drive to it....
They are solid little cars - no rattles or loose bits
If you get the SZ4 spec - You get everything included
Even the SZ2 comes with traction control
And best of all - you save a lot of money on a new one (VAT equivalent free)
£1600 off a ex-demo - is that a good move ?
How much are they asking ?
A new one - with a cash discount could be a better bet ...0 -
I just wish that Suzuki would make a DSG geared Swift Sport
That would be on my wish list
(VW owned Suzuki for a while - 3 or 4 years ago)0 -
50 MPG for a petrol auto is good indeed.
I've not decided on the Swift yet and when/if I do is when I will start the haggling!
Did feel more solid than the Hyundai and pretty nippy for a diesel, 6th gear would be nice but other than that it's got everything I'd want, the SZ4 has cruise control too and that would be handy.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

Don't forget Climate control air con (which is not available on the Hyundai) - Hands Free standard too (could save your licence)
The only downside (as far as I can see) is the amount of space in the rear for passengers and luggage !0
