my DD is leaving in 2 weeks :(

I am focussing on the positives

    1. i am not actually an empty nester yet, as DS is still here
    2. I am really excited for her - she has wanted to do this since she was 10 years old (she is going to drama school)
    3. I won't have to worry about what to feed her - she can be very fussy
    4. I can get my hands on her bedroom and have a good sort / clear out / clean. (she has given permission)
    5. it will be easier to have family / friends to stay when she isn't here - they can borrow her room (again, she has given permission)
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Hi Everyone!
So 2nd year of UNI starts again Monday...DD has moved into house with the same 8 flatmates from 1st year...so why was I so worried about my only child being away from home - 2hrs train ride away. Obviously there have been dramas but she/I have coped with theft of her debit card, Apple Mac (brand new) needing new hard drive in 1st semester, loss of her expensive I-phone - she forgot to buy the insurance, so had to make do with 'old' phone till B.Day - such drama!!
You must make them be more responsible or they will never 'learn'..
I am now pondering the quiet of my house, I can actually sit down and breathe a bit more easily than I could this time last year - Am so proud of her and know she's eager to start the new term! Just hope hope they don't have too many wild house parties!! Am I joking:rotfl:

So how are all my empty nesters getting on.

DD in Y2. She wasn't well Friday so we went to visit her. She knew we were coming straight from work so she went out and bought pizza for us and it was cooked ready. She also had a box of chocs for me for coming to visit.

When I say she isn't well I mean she's got herself stressed to the max. She's always put a huge amount of pressure on herself and it's making her ill. I offered to bring her home and quit uni but she says no.

    Tough coming home without her.

I think my mum was hit triple hard with empty nest syndrome as until a month ago she had all 3 of my siblings living at home, well one decided to move to london, and the other 2 went off to uni in liverpool! All in the space of one week! Its the first time in 27 years they haven't had at least one child at home so i know its been a bit of the shock to the system.

She seems to be holding up ok, i keep reminding her she only has a few weeks till we are all back for christmas :) And i think she's enjoying having a bit of time to herself. I still worry about her though (especially when my dad is away on business too)
