NI Rip Offs

So its not a Northern Ireland rip off then?
And also these attractions like the Giants Causeway and the Titanic Exhibition are promoted and designed around getting tourists to spend money in Northern Ireland, not about entertaining the locals with a cheap afternoon out - there are loads of things to do in NI if you want that.
I do find it amusing that 30 years ago Northern Ireland was a !!!! hole that noone wanted to visit, but now when we're getting our act together with promoting World Class attractions, then we complain about the price of it.
Agree on prices. Ask for a pint of coke in a bar now and it costs more than a pint of beer - £2 sounds about right. However, world class attractions??The_Hurricane wrote: »I don't mind constructive criticism it was more your tone and the childish snipes such as "did anyone force you to buy the coke?"
I stand by my claims that the Odyssey is a rip off and should be avoided.
Anyway moving on to other rip offs in NI.
It wasn't what you said it was how you said it.

You're mixing up two posts.
World class attractions = Giants Causeway, Titanic Exhibition, etc, in that tourists from outside of NI come here and will go to see them. Look how many cruise liners now dock here, and how many more there will be in the future with the new developments there. These people dont come here for a walk round Marks & Spencers! Dont underestimate the potential value of Tourism for Northern Ireland. Americans in particular are happy to come to Ireland so lets encourage more of them up over the boarder.thefreckle wrote: »

I'm sure they'll get over it.0 -
Two thirds of all visits to "tourist attractions" in N.I. are from locals.
With the prices charged in Titanic and the Causeway, I can only see this dropping. You'll only pay that sort of money to see it once.
They may be designed around getting more foreign tourists in, but the majority of money spent there is by locals. We paid for the attractions; the least we can expect is value for money.0 -

So now you admit that these local amenities are not for the locals but to rip off tourists? That's a great advertisement for NI.
Also why can't bowling be priced per game rather than per person, three people playing one game of 10 pin bowling which would last probably 20 minutes costing £12.75 can not be deemed as anything but a rip off.0 -

So you taking a provence wide statistic, for all attractions, and applying that to the likes of the Titanic Centre, Giants Causeway, etc?
Also, how often does anyone really want to go back to the giants causeway? I'm 44 and i've probably been there 4 times, so thats roughly once every ten years. Is it such a big effort to pay £8.50 to something you're going to do once every 10 years?
And if it is, then either dont go, or look for alternative ways to 'avoid' the payment.saverbuyer wrote: »

You'll only pay that sort of money to see it once anyway. Do you envisage going back to the Titanic exhibition monthly? I know i dont. Probably go at some point in the future with some family members but thats about it.saverbuyer wrote: »

And £8.50 for a day out at the Giants Causeway isnt value for money?
You'd pay as much for a cinema ticket!!!!0 -

No, i SAID that there were international grade tourist attractions such as the Giants Causeway and the Titanic Exhibition - they are there for the benefit of locals and for tourists.
Bowling is for the local community and i never said otherwise. I'm not sure why you're not grasping that £4.25 a game is probably about right and that these are businesses not charities?
Is £8.50 really as a rip off? How much do you pay for a cinema ticket?The_Hurricane wrote: »

I despair.
Because the length of the game will vary depending on the amount of people playing, and you're paying for the hire of the lane.
I would say three games for say, 4 people is probably an hour and a half or two hours craic for £12.75 each. Realistically, its an evening out for not much more than a tenner.
Doesnt seem expensive to me?0 -

Yes. We know.0 -
Can anyone justify how either of these two scenarios is a rip off?
(a) a night out ten pin bowling with three friends and a bit of craic for £12.75 each
(b) a day at Northern Irelands top attraction, access to the visitors centre, interactive exhibition, a walk down and round the causeway itself, and back up over the clifftop walk, perhaps with a picnic with you for £8.50 each?0
