    NI isn't a province, it's only two-thirds of one.

    *ducks* :D

In the context of the UK it can be called a province but that is yet another debate.

I'm inclined to agree with the poster who said, "You pays your money and you makes your choice", or words to that effect. For example, I find the Odyssey expensive, not that convenient to get to (I walk most places) and lacking in atmosphere (i.e. full of spides). So I avoid it like the plague.

+1. Totally agree. You cant really walk in there, see the prices, buy whatever and then complain about being ripped off. Dont spend the money then you arent ripped off. Simples.

Equally, I find most high street shops a rip-off, because the clothes/shoes/bags are poor quality. I'd rather spend a bit more, but buy less. Or buy in charity shops :D

Yes, generally i buy online, and only venture to a high street or shopping centre when i have to.

One person's rip-off is another person's essential, be that a Friday evening pint, a Mulberry handbag, a facial or a computer game.

I wouldn't DREAM of spending £600 on a TV, but I would absolutely spend £600 on a holiday somewhere I love.

Exactly. Which is my point. Its all about context. Someone buying a £600 TV might justify it on the basis it will provide family entertainment for 10 years and are happy to pay that. So in context thats not a rip off.

Likewise with GC. As a one off event once in a while then yes to me its probably VFM as i'll go once every five or ten years and plod about for the day. And £8.50 isnt a lot to pay for the memories a good day out brings.

The real rip offs are those things which we have no say over - rates, tax etc.

    Yup.

Having said that, I understand that everyone needs some pleasure in life and it would be terrible if we couldn't enjoy ourselves now and then. And yes, pub prices are expensive. But nobody *has* to spend £100 in a nightclub, I certainly don't! As for restaurants, most of them have good deals even at weekends. So eating out (even in good quality places) isn't that dear.

Yes. Exactly. So you pays your money and you makes your choice. I've had some great nights in for a few pounds with friends, but likewise sometimes its nice to do something different - whether that be bowling or a few drinks out or a day out somewhere and yes, there is a cost associated with that.

That's not exactly how it happened at the Odyssey, in relation to the bowling I walked up to the member of staff and asked for two games for two people, he charged me £8.50, it was only when the lights went off after game one that he advised that it was £4.25 per person per game.

As for the coke (yet again :D) it was served to me before I could check the prices, it's not the done thing in a bar to check prices before hand. In relation to your arguement about paying for the setting, the bar in question was the pits and had a bad pong in it - only my friend wanted to stay for a catch up I would not have went there.

Customer service in th other third can be a bit lax too.

Some of the other carparks in Belfast.

E.g. The carpark at Stuart's lane in £5 for the entire day while there are places that can charge upwards of £10 for the same duration.

All down to location and convenience, and how much they want to attract new business.
