you will have been insured as far as RTA goes but, some insurers include a term about "driving in accordance with the terms of your licence", which they could use to reject claims for damage to your car and maybe even reclaim costs they paid out to third parties.

Nice to see there are other with paper licences and out of date addresses, maybe we should start a club

It hasn't been a problem so far. There have been 6 claims made on my motor policies since 1998 - one total loss £26,000, and five minor/medium level.

I did eventually find out last week from the DVLA that my licence was revoked but I have now applied for a change of address and have sent in a rather dubious looking photo befitting any one of the ten shown on Crimewatch!!!

Mind you many moons ago when the DVLA was first formed (1973??) I never received a paper licence so I continued to drive with an out of date red book licence backed up with an affidavit I had completed by a local solicitor. It seemed that I had been 'lost' when they prepared the data base. Eventually I did manage to get my first 'new' look licence (green paper one) in 1985 and that this is the one I have been driving under ever since.

Not unheard of now either which is why the advice when "upgrading" from paper to photo is to keep a copy of your paper licence including entitlements

Im sure a solicitor would get you off. They are criminally minded masterminds when it comes to bending technicalities.

Yep, rules is rules, you must follow the rules and stay under the speed limit or whatever and the police must follow the the rules and get your name or whatever correct

crack on, challenge it all in Court.....

I think you'll find the Magistrates will accept clerical or administrative errors of a minor nature.....

There is a considerable difference between the Law of the Land....and administrative rules.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
