  • OH tried that Gilly, and it did work for a short while but again she started fussing after about 5 mins.

The child has ants in her pants!

:( I hear ya, I had a really unsettled one, but you'l know it does get better, much better :D first few weeks are hell, and I don't care admitting that!
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.
  • A senior medic was admirably clear to my mother: "A newborn's mother has one duty & that is To Survive."
She kindly passed this concept on as I was reeling with a two and a half year old who slept like a trooper and a six month old who only slept in two hour bursts, demanding food AND entertainment in between.
The pram is your best friend - it keeps you upright & them relatively immobilised but in a way noone disapproves of...
Although Captain Wriggly may love a sling?
  • Hope all is going well for you MV in terms of colic as a maternity night nanny I recommend gripe water first (at 4wks plus) and if that doesnt work colief (but thats pretty pricey) which works for most babies.
  • Have you tried the Dr Brown bottles? x
  • Oooh and the Baby Einstein dvds were my best friend when DD was tiny. Especially during the witching hour or two! ;-)
  • My daughter was quite colliky and we 'cured' it by using dentinox colic drops and always making too much formula so she never reached the bottom of the bottle so she never sucked in air...seemed to work a treat, even if we did waste 10ml or so of feed each time.
    Good luck OP.
PAYDBX 2016 #55 100% paid! :j Officially bad debt free...don't count my mortgage.
Now to start saving...it's a whole new world!!

even when I do manage to get wind out of her, it doesn't seem to relieve her discomfort.
It might be reflux rather than (or as well as) colic? See what your HV thinks about that? Even if they are not being sick they can have "silent reflux".

Some reflux babies have a problem with dairy. Cutting out (or cutting down) cows milk in your diet may help.

I'd also second the sling / baby carrier suggestion. Keeps them close to you, keeps them upright but also frees up your hands to get on with life / your toddler.
  • MV, you OK?!
  • Hi, sorry been a bit manic these last few days!

Re the Colief drops, you have to add them to the feed don't you? I did buy some, but as I am breastfeeding at the moment, it just seems so hassly having to express some first to administer the drops.

We're trying Gripe Water at the moment, which although helps to get some big burps out of her, doesn't seem to ease her discomfort :(

I did have a couple of the Dr Brown bottles from when DS was a baby, but think I gave them awy to a friend. Again though as I am BF'ing I'm not needing bottles at the moment.

DD is so grunty at night too! I remember the noises from DS, but they are so loud it's hard to sleep.

Hoping this phase passes soon and she begins sleeping more peacefully. We are both knackered!
