ok so i am looking into getting a second hand ps3 so i can play gta 5 and gta 5 only apart from watching some blu rays. i have played the other gta games but on my pc which is to long in tooth to play new one so i need a cheap console.
but there are so many versions regular slim super slim, all with different storage i note you can now get one with 12gb of storage which is obviously small. but would that be enough if i am just going to play 1 game only on it? or would that be to much if they released extra things for it, i have no expereince of any play stations for that matter as allways had xboxs but they dont do blu ray.
so any advice appreciated.

Get a slim, I bought a 2nd hand chunky one and it has YLOD'd on me twice already. 12GB should do you for one game, but once you get a PS3 you will not be stopping at one game! Go for bigger storage, it doesn't cost that much to get MUCH more than 12GB, so there's no need to be stingy with the storage.0

not sure i would have the moeny for more than one game lol or the time my 1 year sees to that. anyway whats the ylod? anything i should look out for i assume its yellow light of death??? cacn this be fixed is it perminent death much the like red ring on xbox's0

Yep, the yellow light of death! It's fixable, but inconvenient. A one year old? I believe you when you say you'll stick to one game now
but seriously, getting a 40GB or an 80GB isn't terribly expensive, especially if you get an unboxed one/slightly scratched one.

I'd say a 160gb slim. Definitely.Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. How much are you wanting to pay? If you go to a 2nd hand shop pick one that has a 12 month warranty. The slim models are very good. Had mine since it got released and can't fault it. Not sure about the super slim, think they're a bit cheaper looking. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. Saw either a 250 or 500gb slim with the uncharted 3 skin for £130 today in a cash converters. I asked about the warranty for a vita I was interested in and it was 6 months but I'm sure in another store it was 12 months. Wondering if it changes from store to store. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. Going for a 12gb is a risk, and you may not be able to play the game fully, if at all.
It says 12gb but in reality they reserve a certain amount of that to get the ps3 to run. So you'll actually have about 9.5gb to play with. Considering the game install is 8gb that only leaves a tiny amount for game saves and updates.
I'd opt for the next size up to keep prices down, or alternatively buy a 12gb and upgrade the hdd yourself. Whichever one is cheaperpersonally I'd go for the 32 gig to save the hassle

The older models (20gb, 40gb, 60gb and 80gb) may get the YLOD, but the amount of consoles that have that are far far less than the xbox 360 and the RROD. Being older they obviously are at higher risk of breaking and I think the fans are louder. However, you can easily pick one up for less than £100. Worth checking your local game or cash converters. You'll get a warranty if you buy it from a shop, whereas you won't get that on ebay.
The slim consoles are the best. Great quality, quiet fans, no YLOD, good sized hard drives etc. However, you're probably looking at around the £120-£150 mark even for pre-owned. Worth looking on ebay, but currently with Buy It Now the cheapest is over £100 and even at £100 the ones listed have slight faults so read carefully. I think auctions generally go quite high too, but you may be able to get a bargain.
The super slim ones from what I've heard are not as good and with a massive game such as GTA I'd suggest going for a console with more than 12gb. You're looking at at least £135 for a super slim.
For just one game (at least in the near future) and your budget I'd consider the original 80gb model. It's older, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still have some life left in it. You can always upgrade it later on if you wish. If you can go a little higher I'd certainly go for one the slim models (120gb, 160gb or 320gb).
There's always good PS3 deals about with various games included. If buying online check for discount codes too.0 -
Get a slim. The chunky ones are not as good and do break easily. That is one of the main reasons they brought the slim out. Get one with quite big storage because you won't just be playing one game on it. There will be other games that come out and you will want to play them.0
