  • Get a slim. The chunky ones are not as good and do break easily. That is one of the main reasons they brought the slim out. Get one with quite big storage because you won't just be playing one game on it. There will be other games that come out and you will want to play them.

The older version may be more likely to break, but they're still great machines and with any console there is a chance of something going wrong. If you look after it it shouldn't matter what model you get.

They'd have bought a slim out anyway. It's the same reason there are thinner PS1s, PS2s, PSP and soon to be a thinner PS Vita. People upgrade, they can charge more for new products and make more money.

The Slim PS3 is better than the super slim, so by that logic (not as good/breaking) why bring out a newer model?

I still have a phat PS2 and the original PSP and they're perfectly fine and certainly don't break easy. Might be the original PS1 I have as well, in which case that's fine too. My friend also has an older version PS3, bought this year, that still works great.

I have 60gb and 80gb consoles and both have shown the YLOD for well over 9 months and yet they are still going well.
As a back up for my PS2 games, I have the silver PS2 and have no qualms about forking out for a PS4 if and when my PS3's give up the ghost.
I couldn't be without my consoles, I play old games over and over again.
Don't put your YLOD PS3 out to pasture until it refuses to play games.
    You live..You learn.:)
  • I bought my 80Gb fat console 2nd hand from Gamestation over 2 years ago and it's still going strong.

not sure i would have the moeny for more than one game lol or the time my 1 year sees to that. anyway whats the ylod? anything i should look out for i assume its yellow light of death??? cacn this be fixed is it perminent death much the like red ring on xbox's

Do NOT go for a a YLoD PS3, its not fixable. There are temporary fixes, I've done it myself but it will go again its only a matter of time, I've never known a fixed one last more than 6 months.

The only permanent fix for the YLoD is to completely re-ball all the solder with better qaulity lead solder, but the cost is so high that almost no-one bothers.

Don't bother with older machines get a slim, 12GB is far too small although it is easy to replace the drives. Most of the older models have only a little life left in them unless they've been kept in a box for teh last 5 years.

Eh? you mean they've had the YLoD and you've had it "fixed"? Because if its got the YLoD it won't boot, simple as is. Switch it on, 3 beeps and it shuts down.
Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.
  • thanks for all your replies :). looking forward to getting one now and i will avoid the 12gb as i was slightly worried about it with such a large game with possible extra downloads like gtav.
