what time of year to have a baby?

so, in your experience, what are the pros and cons of giving birth/being pregnant in any given season?
My kids are October, June and this next one will be July.....
I liked having a summer baby - could go out on nice walks and everyone would stop and chat and admire the wee one. Unlike the October one who was wrapped up most of the time.
If I could have chosen, I would have liked around April, so I wasn't pregnant when it was really hot, but sometimes these things can't be planned, so I'm just glad I have my kids, no matter when their birthdays are.:D
Ps: I think my family would have disowned me if I had another December baby though...far too many in Dec as it is!!! My son's birthday is end of Jan. He does get a fair few presents wrapped in Christmas paper (moneysaving yes, but Winnie the Bloomin Pooh in a santa hat for 6 YEARS RUNNING does get a little tiresome)
Play them at their own game then.....;)
My mum is Dec 23, and my gran once gave her a b.day present wrapped in Christmas paper......
when March came round, my mum duly wrapped my grans b.day present in Xmas paper, and handed it over, much to my grans surprise, but she understood how my mum felt then.
Needless to say, no-one in the family has ever made that mistake again!:D :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Oh and can I say.....May has to be the worst month for a baby!!
Fair enough, t's a lovely month, and pregnancy is during the spring etc, but I was a May baby, and when I was in my teens it was awful having to go to exams on my birthday!!! Me again (sorry, but I'm liking this thread!):D
Is the school age intake different in England than it is here in Scotland??
Here the school age intake is from Mar 1st - Feb 28th......so the oldest kids are born in March.
But other posts have said they were the oldest, and were September babies....???Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Hi ya
DD2 was born on Christmas Eve. That Christmas was just a total blur to be honest. She was due on the 14th Dec and the hospital wanted to book me in to be induced on Christmas Eve. But I said no. So they booked me in for the 28th December instead (which is my mum's birthday). If she came in between, which obviously she did, then I it was ment to be.
We make sure she has a seperate birthday. Trouble is she expects presents on Boxing Day as well. Health wise she had a couple of colds but then that's only expected in any baby.
DD1 born in October.
DS1 born in August.
DS2 born in October as well.
I had PND with all of them. But then I suffer through the winter months anyway once the clocks go back. I'm definitly a sun and light nights person so I suppose having them all in the latter half of the year just compounded it even more.0 -
Firstly, congratulations. Enjoy your pregnancy; I loved mine and really missed my bump after the birth.
My birthday is 15 December (due end Jan/early Feb, so v.early) and I have always had separate presents. In fact, as an adult I have always insisted I get treated the same way as everyone else with birthdays at other times of year. I had parties, and as a child there were always plenty of friends who turned up. As an adult, yes there are other Xmas do's that interfere, so either get your invites out early, or do as I did and make the work's Xmas do your birthday party (they hire the nightclub and all your mates get to go!).
My 4 children were born: March x 2, August and November.
If they're lucky, the March b'days coincide with Easter and they get the 2 week holidays off, so trips out are easier to negotiate for a mid-week birthday. Have never heard from a relative that eggs or birthday gifts were joint.
August birthday means that he's off school again, the weather is usually very nice so garden parties are ideal. That said, he did want one in an activity centre last year just like his brothers have had, so you can't win!
November birthday often can involve fireworks so close to Halloween, and is again near the half term holiday. Always be organised with invitations, get them out early and chase up the parents for responses if you don't get them.
Regarding pregnancies, well they're all different. I found the March ones worst because I had to go through the winter with stuffy sinuses which the central heating agravated. Just dress according to the weather, light clothing in summer, and there was aircon in my office building, which helped. If all else fails, if the car has aircon go for lots of long drives.
Since we don't have long cold winters anymore, you'll find plenty of opportunities to go out anyway. There are plenty of cute outfits for any time of year. Enjoy, it is all too quickly over and then they're teenagers - then your fun really begins! One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
While we continue to have "official" recommended intakes for Vitamin D that understate the bodies need, and a Sun Smart policy that discourages the acquisition of optimal vitamin d status, most of the UK population remain insufficient most of the year. The impact of the improved status during the summer months is seen in the mental health consequences in later life. Here is just one example. I could go on and on as many here will know.
Birth rates of people who later kill themselves show disproportionate excess for April, May and June compared with the other months. Overall, we found an increase of 17% in the risk of suicide for people born in the peak month (spring–early summer) compared with those born in the trough month (autumn–early winter); this risk increase was larger for women (29.6%) than for men (13.7%).
Of course if pregnant women followed the advice from Hollis and Carol Wagner, in South Carolina, have been giving pregnant women 4,000 units/day for years. then adverse consequences of Vitamin D insufficiency during pregnancy and lactation would be a thing of the past.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

I am a September baby, so one of the eldest in the year. Funny someone saying they were held back a year as cut off date changed. This happened to me too in my first year at primary school, i was so upset that all my friends moved up a year and I had stay with a class of strangers, still remeber it now! (wonder if it was for this reason as no-one ever told me why!) I hated it as my sister's birthday was in June and she always got a lovely new summer dress whereas I always got drab winter ones!
Two of my children were born in December (7th and 19th), no problems with the cold, just wrapped them up well! By the time the weather was nicer they were a bit more mobile so we could go out in the garden. No problems with joint presents either. Only tip is to get their birthday cards early as come a few weeks before their birthdays there's a rubbish selection of birthday cards as the shelves full of Christmas ones!
One born in March, had to have the heating on constantly for her but she was only 5lb 6oz so was a bit of a tidgey toad! (and still is!) And just born nicely to get free nursery funding after Easter.
One born in August last year so she'll be one of the youngest in her year. Nightmare being heavily pregnant in the summer, could hardly do anything without being completely wiped out!! Kept having afternoon naps and sometimes mid morning ones too!0 -

I like your thinkingIt's my husbands sister who is the main culprit and she has an April birthday so she has till next year to stop the Winnie The Pooh on ice lark or the gloves will be off :rotfl: I think she does it to annoy me more than anything
