    Hi Paul,

Yes I am using the latest Windows Desktop application.

I have managed to get it working by simply creating desktop shortcuts for each file I want store/sync and then copying each of those shortcuts into the Copy folder.

Still don't understand why for me it wouldn't work by using the recommended method of copying the files straight into the Copy folder. But hey, such is life and with 20 Gb of free storage who's complaining.

    Thanks for your help...

It seems a faff creating shortcuts for each file.
Have you tried creating a shortcut to a folder which contains your documents, and dropping that in your 'copy' folder?
I have added shortcuts for 'Documents', 'Pictures' & 'Videos' to my copy folder and each of those 3 folders are kept in sync automatically with the cloud - 26GB in total!

    You might want to test drive it first;
    1) Create a 'Test' folder anywhere in your PC
    2) Right click on the folder and create a shortcut, move it to your copy folder.
    3) Create a new Notepad file 'testfile.txt' in your 'Test' folder.
    4) Copy, should then sync the file to the cloud.
    5) Now the interesting bit! re-open the 'testfile.txt' file in the 'Test' folder and add some more text to it. Save it.
    6) The revised file should now sync to the cloud, and if you view it via your copy.com web page, look at file activity for the file and you should see 2 versions; the original version & the latest version.

Sorry, I should have said folders rather files. I have just amended a a couple of documents for test purposes and they have synced to the cloud immediately, so everything seems to be working fine..

But to repeat my previous post, I still don't understand why it wouldn't work by using the recommended method of copying the files straight into the Copy folder.

Not a problem for me with the shortcut workaround but it could be off-putting for potential users if they experience similar difficulties, which would be a pity because Copy.com appears to be an excellent programme and certainly superb value.

Strange, because any files that I add to my copy folder are synced OK to the cloud... I've just added 2 files just now, and they synced immediately.
Copy must be indexing your copy folder OK, as it's following the shortcut folder locations. If it's a problem for you, you might want to raise a support ticket with copy, their software engineers are quite helpful.

.... Is there any way to upload batch copies? I've also not found a way to automatically back up any new photos I take.

Paul seems to be the expert on Copy but based on my beginner's fumblings try putting all the photos into one folder then uploading the folder.

Add any new photos to the folder and they should sync automatically.

This is based on my desktop PC experience - can't say if it works for iPhone.

Thanks Paul, but it's no longer a problem for me as it's a pretty simple matter to add folders by way of the desktop shortcut method.

My only concern was if other potential users had similar problems they may neither have the time nor the inclination to get the programme up and running, which would be a pity not only for them but for Barracuda.
  • I totally agree. I've had my fair share of disasters with copy... especially because of the lack of a decent documentation by copy.

In respect of the iphone app; well I only upload the photos that I want to keep, so it suits me to review & upload them one at a time, and into specific online folders.
I'm a rubbish photographer and take loads of photos in the luck that one or two will be worth saving!!
Again, the 'copy' support team may be able to help.

Sugar Sync is changing to pay only from February 2014 :(

Help what free program can I use instead. I find Sugar Sync meets my needs perfectly and easy to use.

Not sure I am willing to pay for it though.

Does DropBox work in a similar manner?

I'm looking for an easy online back up of documents, music and some pictures (I store the bulk on Flickr). I'm at 37% of SugarSync 5.12GB this is average for me.

I use SkyDrive and Amazon Cloud occasionally but i'd like something that syncs automatically with my netbook & PC like SugarSync does.

I've personally found iCloud too restrictive (typical Apple!).
So I use Barracuda's Copy free iphone app to backup my iphone photos & videos, you'll get 20GB free storage using the link above, and it's very easy to sync individual photos/videos or complete folders to the cloud.
You can then access or securely share them, using a PC/ipad/mac/linux or whatever!

Try the above, they claim that the 20GB is 'free for the lifetime of the account'.... and it automatically syncs - just like Sugarsync....
  • I use dropbox have quite a few GB free with samsung tablet/phone fair enough only last for a year or so. I also use https://mega.co.nz/ mainly for backups video, photos I also back on up HD.
