Well, as a minister of it, I would have to say that (in my case) its about relationship - with God, but then I am biased!

Hey, we're all biased one way or the other. Good luck to you mate.

Not only is it Father's Day - it's my Dad's 65th birthday! And as usual I have no idea what to get him.

He doesn't particularly drink and doesn't smoke. No point getting him anything electrically - he sells them! As for hobbies TBH he's worked so hard throughout his life looking after us kids he doesn't really have any.

    Any ideas out there???
I'm swaying towards the "experiences" gift idea rather than anything else (i.e. clothes) .

    :confused::confused::confused:

I bought a collage from Snapfish for £6 - max of 30pics for this one. I added a title, choose a background.
Dad received it today and opened it :-( But he called and said he loved it and was putting it up today :T :T :j

    http://www.snapfish.co.uk/storefathersday (Starting price £3.99p)

Also Photo box do them but they are more expensive

    http://www.photobox.co.uk/static/product_collageposter.html

Starting price £9.99 but they have totaly different types of collages to choose from

    Happy Fathers Day

Mr Tesco seems to have ideas of what Dads would like on Father's day !

Is there any Dad who would actually jump for joy on receiving a Hank Marvin CD on Sunday ?

Fab Dad Socks (for a joke) from Tesco £1
    Lottery Lucky Dip £1
    Scratchcard £1
    Card £1.79

p.s. inthepaper.co.uk is a fab site! Really cool for special occasion articles. I bought a last minute one for my best mate (breast flasher), and got it delivered to her work! And one for the (now ex!) boyfriend as the best boyfriend in the world :-( The thought was there! Recommend that site though.

Keep Father's Day cheap.. just spoil him! Dad's are special but Father's Day's commercialised!

When suggesting people didn't buy gifts for Father's Day I knew it would be controversial. However I actually agree with people who have said a small home made gift shows appreciation. I think it's rather nice.

I'm a good deal less keen on buying an expensive experience day, particularly if you feel you then have to do something even bigger for their birthday and Christmas.

I feel much the same about Valentines Day. It used to be about giving a card and going out for a meal, but now the shopping industry tries hard to persuade us we need to buy gifts too.

It's this commercialisation I dislike. I can think of nothing better to give or receive than a home made card and a home made gift. It shows you care. Spending time says more than spending money.

You have saved the day! Dad is 80 next week and I have just ordered him a 'newspaper' (in fact his local paper!) with his picture as the feature story of the day.

I thought it was such a good idea I actually paid (with a discount voucher from the internet)

    Keep up the good work.

My Dad is 57, healthy and has everything he wants (except a full head of hair).
Every birthday, Christmas and Father's Day I get him the same thing, as do many of our family - Money!

This may sound rubbish, but what he does with it, is store it up over the year and when he sees a fitting charity or appeal, he gives it all to them.
Last year he had enough money from the family to donate a ShelterBox (about £500), to the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal.:A

He isn't rich, just a mechanic, but he has more than enough tools, toolboxes, socks, etc., so he does this. It makes him happy, and thats all that counts.:T

Too many people give presents thinking of what is funny or would make themselves happy. Our family focuses on what makes the recipient happy.:D

So fathers day is a baseless idea conjured up by some bright-spark charlatan out to earn a few quid from gullible people.
Mothers day has a 'religious basis' (it actually doesnt by the way). Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt religion a baseless idea conjured up by some bright-spark charlatan out to earn a few quid from gullible people.

:rotfl: :D ...absolutely!....especially some of the more extreme US religious off-shoots

I don't fall for the Mother's Day or the Father's Day rubbish (and I'm a mother too) as I think if you don't manage to show and experience love and support for (and from) your family throughout the year, what is one forced day going to do?
    My parents believe this too.

Tesco have an offer on the Special Edition DVD of Hot Fuzz - buy the DVD for £10 and get a free 300g bar of Yorkie! Perfect for my two girls to give their dad!

    Fiona :j

Fathers day is difficult when you no longer live together! So all these ideas are brill!

I went to my Local TESCO (express) they did not have the DVD offer so quick alternative -

    300g Yorkie Bar for Dad's 2.59
2 x Caramel Fudge Shortcake Cakes 0.99 each
    Bag of Sweets 1.30
    Icing Sugar 0.60

    Total Spend £6.47

My two children will be decorating the Cakes with icing and sweets - combining a pressie and card - saving me a lot! :j :T

I agree with the other posters about spending time with your Dad.
Whatever I get my Dad for Fathers Day I know that the best gift of all will be him opening the front door to a surprise visit - The look on his face is worth a million pounds alone.
From a more practical point of view I am planning on bringing a complete meal to prepare, taking over the Kitchen and cooking him a roast pork dinner with crackling & all the trimmings. It's one of his favorite meals he NEVER gets to enjoy at home as my Mum hates roast pork and so never cooks it.
Ok, it's not really money saving but it means we can have a lovely family meal that will be just as good (probably better) than a over priced restaurant meal and he can fall asleep on the sofa after!!:D
