Here's a cheap gift you can make yourself.
Elderflower Champagne.
4 heads of Elderflower
1 1/2 lbs sugar
2 Tablespoons White Wine vinegar
1 Gallon of Water
2 lemons
Juice Lemons then cut skins in 4. Put everything in a large plastic container stir . Leave 24 hours stirring occassionally. Strain to remove pips , skins and flowers. Bottle in screw top bottle.Leave a few days before opening.
Warning will be fizzy .
Cheers!
Just finished making 2 gallons with young children who will then bring in a small drink bottle to take some home for Dad.
Has to be the easiest Fathers Days gift I've ever made with a group of Kids.0 -
My dad is 74 but still paints and sometimes sells his work. He also loves computers so I bought a 'MR Site' web site package which is easy to use. This will help him exhibit his paintings to a wider audience and give him some fun building the site. It costs from £24.99 from PC World to £29.99 from other websites. Just enter MR Site into Google. It's a bit pricier than I would usually spend but it's a useful, meaningful gift.0

A huge pump action water pistol to get his own back in the garden. I think he'll enjoy something the kids can have fun with too rather than spending money on something he doesn't really want.[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

I find it hard to get my Dad something good for Father's Day and I find that I end up getting the same thing each year! I was lucky last year, though - I sent my Dad an inflated helium balloon last year - it was a bit different and a complete surprise to him!
I also included some chocolate for him - it was pretty easy to order and quite cheap. Think it was about £14 all-in.
The website was: http://www.balloonsshop.co.uk

Just need to sort something for this year :-)0 -
Thank you to Bellis 102
You have saved the day! Dad is 80 next week and I have just ordered him a 'newspaper' (in fact his local paper!) with his picture as the feature story of the day.
I thought it was such a good idea I actually paid (with a discount voucher from the internet)
Keep up the good work.

Mothers Day, or to give it the proper name "Mothering Sunday", has a religious basis.
Fathers Day, GrandParents days etc are complete inventions by the card industry to make people buy more cards.
Right - I'm ready and braced for the backlash!
So fathers day is a baseless idea conjured up by some bright-spark charlatan out to earn a few quid from gullible people.
Mothers day has a 'religious basis' (it actually doesnt by the way). Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt religion a baseless idea conjured up by some bright-spark charlatan out to earn a few quid from gullible people.0 -

Well, as a minister of it, I would have to say that (in my case) its about relationship - with God, but then I am biased!0 -
Don't normally buy anything (apart from a card), but am abit more prepared this year:p
For DH from the 2 DS's, I've uploaded a photo on the Tesco website and ordered a keyring with their pics, cost about £2.50. Probably too late to do this now, but thought I'd share:D
Also bought this from the Works for £2.99 as he's a fan:

So call me scrooge but I don't see why we all have to slavishly spend money just because some bright spark in marketing has invented a fictitious day. And if you must do it then don't fall even further into the trap and spend money buying presents as well as a card.
Right - I'm ready and braced for the backlash!
My father died 17 years ago. Father's day reminds me of what I am missing. My father wasn't one for cards or presents but he loved the fuss from his children.
My OH is the same he likes the fuss and seeing the happy look on our DD face when he 'loves' her gift. There is so much joy in giving a gift.
DD has bought OH a padded cycle seat for his bike as she pinched his for her bike a few weeks ago. Cost £6.99. She also has a pair of DAD socks that she bought in M&S sale for £1 after Father's day 2006
