My Dad I think is the hardest to buy for. He is 73 and has Parkinsons so no 'experiences' for him. He has enough clothes to start a shop. There are no CD's he wants at the mo and never watches any DVD I buy him. Mum is in charge of the garden so nothing there. Also no hobbies.
The only thing I can think of is some hotel vouchers but then he doesn't like leaving the house much anymore?0 -
Personalised newspaper for your dad
I made it!!
Nothing, except cost of ink (and I bought a clip frame from tesco for £1.94)
Just visit the website https://www.inthepaper.co.uk and follow the instructions to design your newspaper front page! then click on preview newspaper, if you right click on the picture of your design and right click to save picture! then all you do is print it off!!! a bit of a cheat, but it works!!
brilliant!!!!!!

Thanks Jon_Workshop for the newspaper idea, when he's age 89 what do you buy your dad?
Something that tells him he was one of the best in his profession.0 -
Woolworths have a range of CDs for under £5 with prices of some starting at only £1. I got my Father a Billie Holiday one for £2 but there is a very large selection on offer.0

My Daughter has just purchased a great personalised Parking Sign for her dad for around £7 including delivery. The site has loads of Biker related items and can be found at: http://www.custom-images.co.uk0

Previous ideas for us have been boxes (from charity shops) filled with cheap but highly regarded stuff. These are a bit personal but you'll get the picture:
Lots of plectrums (dh loses pleccies all the time) marzipan stars (dh loves marzipan but the principle of cutting them into hearts or stars could apply to anything) collages made from pics of dh and the kids cut out and arranged nicely and put in a cheap frame (Tesco, Asda etc) cheap white T-shirt from Asda/QS or similar painted with fabric paint (this is a great idea for the school holidays too) - "I'm the daddy" is our youngest's idea this year....(I have to admit that my dh is not a style guru and is more than happy wearing the stuff the kids make - this wouldn't be appropriate if your partner is very image conscious!)
A cake (of course!) made & decorated by the kids, a chess set made from a piece of ply from a skip and some black and white kitchen tiles stuck on and the pieces made from a resin mould that we got on freecycle. Finally, Tescos had reading glasses for £2.99 BOGOF a couple fo weeks ago so the kids bought two pairs and have wrapped them in tissue paper with a book they found in the charity shop which he will enjoy...
And of course, always home made cards which dh loves best of all and has stuck all round his office from previous years......0 -

How about scanning some 'old' family photos in to the computer (you may need to ask around the family to get a good selection together) and then ordering a memory book (basically a photo album where the photos are pages bound into a hard-back book) from one of the online photo companies. You would need to get cracking to do it in time for Sunday, but it would be a lovely thoughtful gift.0 -
Wouldn't let me preview without proceeding to payment...?

My dad is also elderly and not active so fathers day and birthdays are a real challenge. However, this year he said to give the money to charity so I went to an Irish (he lives in Ireland) charity website, https://www.bothar.ie, and bought him some guinea fowl! There's a cute little card that goes out to him (provided you put your dad's address in the first window, otherwise it comes to you to send on). I think it is going to take 4 or 5 days but I printed out the e-card that you can click on when your payment goes through and posted that to him in the meantime.
Remember, older dads are from the generation where most people never wasted anything and rarely had luxurious or frivolous items. I find my parents don't enjoy things like that even though they can afford them now and they get the most pleasure from spending time with their kids. So go visit Dad this Sunday if you can - it's a priceless present, especially if he's older or poorly.0
