Has anyone noticed that one horse went to stay at a friend's yet two are coming back? Not very money saving really, is it?
The fence posts are in and all is ready for the shelter :T The field is yet to be fertilized, but that will be done soon enough. The farmer has decided to rent out another couple of fields for horses and asked me if I will do the admin, ie invoicing etc for rent free horses - no brainer there!:rotfl: So they'll be virtually next door and costing less than I thought. I have a fund for vet fees put aside and will add to it monthly instead of insurance. To be honest they're both too old for insurance now. I also have a separate pot for feed, foot trimming and other horsey bits and pieces.
This morning, it being my day off, I went for a fairly long walk across the common and into the woods. I don't know this area very well. I found the most marvelous hacking routes including a horse race track! If he's up to it in the summer the Captain and I might go for walk hacks, all depends on how he is.
The endowment company have written back to say they are looking into my concerns, read claim and will get back to me in the next two weeks.
In all of this I'm trying to decide what to do with the garden, certainly I'm going to have to get a lawnmower pronto! The grass is growing as I watch it. That will be an expenditure for this week. I'm on evenings so will be able to cut the grass before work, isn't that something to look forward to?Total debt at October 2008: £67,213.30

What a lovely thing to say granny, thank you! With the weight I've put on recently it would be more of a demi-john than a bottle anyway :rotfl:Hey Piq

Things are certainly looking up for you after the hiccups along the way. The gentle rides sound great - especially if the weather stays as good as it's been for the last few days.0

I can see a money-saving angle - it's MUCH cheaper to have two on rent-free land than it is to have one at livery, as long as the additional one isn't a walking vet billMy additional costs for Finn are an extra £10 for the farrier every 10 weeks (he officially charges £20 a trim, but refuses to take more than £30 for doing them both), about two extra bags of Speedibeet (£13.50 each) and 50 bales of hay (£3 each). Total about £230 a year. DIY livery for Merlin would be £1040 a year plus 14 miles of driving twice a day, so it's a no brainer to have the second one here rather than sending M to livery so he has company
(That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!)0 -

HI
Make sure you get the rent free bit in writing, after all the problems you had with the yard owner / manager/ and his garden last time, which caused this move in the first place.
Glad they will shortly be back with you and Colin on guard duty! :rotfl:Breast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles

Good idea Kaz. I'm too trusting by far. I will pop over tomorrow and ask for it in writing. He seems genuine enough, but you're right especially after the last yard owner.

I like your thinkingI'm going with it. Noah still belongs to my friend and she has said she will pay for any vet bills he may incur. Although I am insisting on paying for his day to day costs as she has done for the Captain during the last year. She says she will be sending wormers, supplements etc as she bulk buys for the 40 horses on her yard and the two oldies make no difference to her financially. Lovely lady!

A spendy day I'm afraid. I bought quite a lot of fruit and veg and paid a fiver to have the car cleaned. I have decided having the car cleaned for me now I am debt free is a luxury I am prepared to pay for. I absolutely hate cleaning the car, so there!
I've also tried on a pair of shoes for work in a shoe shop then ordered them via QuidcoI can't wear boots all summer and I have to have comfortable shoes with a bit of style for a job where I'm on the move all the time.
Where does all the paperwork come from? I only cleared it a couple of weeks ago and already I have a fair to middling pile to deal withI have the strangest feeling it's not going to get done before work today
Some of it means spending out, the car tax is due, but can wait a while longer as it's not actually due until the end of the month. I'm going to save some money longer term and buy a year of tax. All budgeted for, but I still don't want to spend it....
