 to mean car damage and nasty quotes in the post!

I confess whenever ours has been bumped or scraped (usually by one of us :o ) we just, er, haven't bothered repairing it at all :o :rotfl: Much cheaper :money: :rotfl:

Mind you, I'm now having trouble finding someone who will even take it off my hands for scrap :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hope it's sorted soon.

Ooh, and are you selling cakes?! :j :j
Yes, I'm being paid by cake at work, must remember not to eat them too :o
    Hi Piq

    How annoying about the car.

I also use a local one man band outfit - he is very good and very cheap.

I remember Volvo quoted £600 for a re-spray on a tiny damaged area - said man did it for £80.

I know you are next county although very down south (of said county) but if you can't get one local I can let you know his details if you want.

Thanks EE! I'm going to try bodyshop repairer that did my last car very cheaply, hopefully, they're still there. If they don't come up with a reasonable price I'll get the details from you or do as cheery does and just leave it:rotfl:

 That's horrendous! How on earth can they do that?

Good luck with your your claim. I wish I could do something like that on the Shared Appreciation Mortgage I took out many years ago. The trouble is that I wasn't given bad advice as I actually wanted it. It got me out of a very worrying situation at the time. Sadly there was no MSE around then.

I know  I was shocked at the difference between the written and verbal quote, not to mention how unhelpful the car insurance people were. I'm not going to use the insurance for the work anyway, not if it loses me my no claims.

  • I was just going to type that I can send you an 'as new' Kindle with case + charger etc when I read further that you had fixed it. I was bought a Kindle Paperwhite for Xmas and my other Kindle is still pristine and perfect working. If yours packs up again let me know and I'll send it all to you. Its just sat in a drawer doing nothing x

Well hello there suburbanwifey:wave:Where have you been? I've missed you!

That's an incredibly kind offer thank you so much. I'm very proud of how I managed to write a coherent question in google and understand and activate the remedy!

I never wanted a kindle, thought I preferred an actual book but I find I adore the kindle for reading books. It wouldn't be much good for picture books, but novels and such like - brilliant!

How awful (and annoying) about your car and what ridiculous quote to fix it! I hope you manage to find someone who will do a good job for a better price.

Do you have a date in mind when the boys are coming home :) ?

As much as I love my physical books, when it comes to commuting or vacations, a Kindle (and any other e-reader) are fantastic. Solves the dilemma of 'what book to I have to choose to take on holiday'.

Can't let that one go by: 2nd best comment heard in a store. Sets scene: Children's department of a bookstore in Oslo after a VERY heavy night's drinking. Group of young Kiwis and Aussies are looking at the books. One Aussie girl, still feeling the effects of the night before was leafing through a kiddies' picture book - her comment "Oh look, even the pictures are in English"!

OT: Best comment heard in a store (and most unexpected): Central London on a Saturday afternoon: I was about to pay when colleague #2 comes up to the one who's dealing with my transaction and says: "There's a helicopter outside". We all immediately turn and look at the window behind the till. They'd shut Cambridge Circus to land the London Air Ambulance.

I was probably to the left of where the 2nd one was taken. Yes, I admit sticking around to watch it take off. Although, I deliberately turned away when they brought the patient along. I didn't need to see that, but it was some fancy flying.

They will have added on some if you mentioned going through insurance & it will include replacement of panels and/or respraying full panels with blending on adjacent ones, I reiterate my & everyone's posts above, a small, local or chips away (or similar) outfit will look more at filling, popping out & careful touching up which is massively cheaper
    S x
    - Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
    - Student Loan gone
Swagbucks, Mingle, GiffGaff, Prolific, Qmee & Quidco; thank you MSE every little bit helps

Was busy moving house (like you) busy settling in (like you) and started a new part-time job to help me settle into the area. Been moved since mid-October now, but I've been reading every update you've made and lurking :D

Second best comment puts me in mind of when I was working in an office when faxes were the way of communication. A fax had gone off and arrived at the wrong destination. A phone call from the other company with a very helpful young lady who offered to fax the fax back :rotfl: Hopefully most of you here are not techno-born and know that the original fax stays with the sender and the recipient only gets a copy, you can't send it back!
