He also didn't say what you can do with the remainder of the poaching milk. Where do you throw that away? Can you freeze it? How would you re-use it. I'd hate to be looking at half a pan of poaching milk and wondering "!!!!!! do I do with that?"
And, with the size of houses these days, I'd want to know how smelly cooking that was.0 -
I was quite clearly exaggerating with the £30 a meal (note the start of the post where I explain that the man and his marketing machine angers me so much that I end up going off on a rant) however the maths don't really add up if he's trying to pass himself off as providing money saving and healthy ideas.
As Butterfly Brain mentions, £1.80 per person really adds up so it irks me to see him being marketed as Sir Jamie, the saviour of the poor. Especially following his horrific generalised comments about people on benefits and massive TV's being more important than buying one of his salt grinders or olive oil.
In fact, I even qualify the fact I know this forum isn't his target audience and I can't tell you how many shops of the type I mentioned that I put through every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at that supermarket. It seemed like people just lost their heads over the name and the way the brand is marketed to them. Apparently their potatoes are better than the potatoes at any other place and it's just not true!
I love food too, I'm a director for my family's maunfacturing business however it's the preaching and posturing that goes with it all that I can't stand hence why I'm not a big fan of celebrity chefs."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" He has donated 4000 books to libraries so that they are available to all for free. I suppose that must all be about his image, and it will be his fault that the 'poor' don't use libraries, like they didn't use SureStart Centres.
Anyhoo, i'm not going to defend him any further; you don't have to watch him if you don't want to. Instead i'm going recreate that fish pie with whatever is lurking in my freezer."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." At £7 a kilo at the most obvious supermarket so the 2kg is £14. I might cost that up actually and see if there's a way of making a saving, besides hoping things will be reduced. Although there's loads of recipes on here that would make £14 worth of brisket really stretch."We always find something, hey Didi, to give us the impression we exist?" I do like Jamie Oliver and think he is doing a good thing. I am probably one of his target market, I can cook but I'm not someone who has got the hang of meal planning, sticking to a budget, cooking everything from scratch, not wasting anything etc. that's why I joined this site to get tips. It doesn't come naturally to everyone
. I have never costed a meal in my life as in the past Ive just bought it, made it and ate it but now I want to learn how to reduce my food bill and food waste. I am by no means rich I have just never been shown how to budget. Surely that's a good thing if he can help make a few people like me change our ways.

That is exactly who the target is.
I can cook, my father is a chef and I like food and trying new things, but most of celebrity chef recipes are posh ones. If anything, what Jamie is doing is showing that you can have bigger variety then the usual few cheap meals even on a budget(variety of food is what celebrity chefs are here for!!!). And please don't tell me that dinner for 4 under £5 with all nutrients is not a budget!!!
And I am sorry bashers, the country is full of people like this, or even people who 5 days out of 7 buy ready made/take out.
OStylers in grand scheme of things are minority. I am sure out time comes, but just because your budget is £2.50 for 10 people doesn't meant that Jamie is not showing cheap meals for many.
But don't let that spoil a good old rant and bash...
I am sure Jack will do better programe for absolutely nothing;)
Sorry to go off on a rant, but bashers (in general, I am not really huge Jamie fan) really touch my nerve and turn me red!! hey, the irony...:D0
