I know what you mean about not wanting to pack just in case...!! :o

I, too, am staring at empty boxes in my living room - I was waiting until we have exchanged, but have now been told that our purchaser has requested exchange and completion on the same day as monies from the MoD is taking so long to draw down!!

I think I'd better get a move on with it - signed and returned the deeds and contract yesterday - hopefully not much longer now...

Good luck to everyone else this week - especially with the postal strikes on..

we were aiming for Thursday 26th but that has gone out the window now as the people we are buying from, they had a roof report done on the house they are buying and now they need to agree who is sorting out the repairs and who is paying for it.
Anyone have any idea how long this might take?

Well it's been a month since I completed and I thought I'd have a look here to see what's going on. Glad you're getting there kingkano and good luck angel_eyes .

It's been had work it's only a 2 bed flat, but we had to clean and paint everything and replace all of the floor coverings. Taken us most of the month taking about 2 days a week off of full-time jobs as well.

Had some excitement with a visit from the fire brigade last week when the hot water tank decided overnight to boil and fill the cupboard with steam.

Mad the pilgrimage to IKEA yesterday and bought a coffee table and the 3 piece suite arrived today. Need to puzzle out curtains next.

I thought buying the place was expensive, kitting it out os even worse!!

Good luck though to all and if it's your first place save plenty of money for what you need to get by day-to-day. ;)

Hi all, and thanks angel eyes for the welcome.

I managed to push ours a little further on Friday - the buyer's solicitor has approved our Deed of Variation on our lease (after sitting on it for a week and holding us up), and now it's gone off to our Housing Association's solicitors for approval. Fingers X'd that'll happen Mon or Tues (if they pull their fingers out...)

I spoke to the Housing Association on Friday lunchtime and they'd not had the new mortgage offer from our buyers yet - so they can't approve the completion. I ended up requesting that they ask this to be faxed to them so that they can do it on Monday. Will have to chase that up tomorrow.

Ours is a chain of 3 (FTB, us and an empty house) so it shouldn't have been that complicated...!!!

Once the amendment to our lease is done and the buyer's mortgage is approved, then we should be able to exchange. I think our vendor's EA is trying to get this done before the end of the month (although he's only charging 0.75% so what difference £1500 will make to him I don't know), which is why all the panic has arisen - he's pushing things, not our vendors.

Anyway, thinking about it as our buyers are FTB's and only have a 3% deposit (and our deposit's coming from our equity), I think we're going to have to exchange and complete on the same day... I think I'd better get packing.. just in case!!

We have had our mortgageS all agreed, just waiting for valuation of the flat now to proceed. Our vendor is getting a bit tetchy now though :( Saying if we dont have a date for the valuation by Monday she will go back on the market. Why do people act so insanely when buying/selling houses? She can wait 1 or 2 weeks and be done. With a new buyer its gotta be 8-12wks again.... sigh.

But we should know by tomorrow afternoon valuation date. Hopefully she'll accept this and it will all happen smoothly now. Not counting my chickens yet.....
  • There has been a slight change of plan. Instead of picking up the keys to the rented flat today, we are now getting them on Wednesday. Removal firm was booked to move us tomorrow (Tuesday). Idea to get flat was nice and sorted (haven from house move) and what was left in the house could go into storage.

New plan. Move stuff into storage tomorrow. Nice removal man will come back Thursday afternoon (when he has finished his planned job) and move us into flat, taking whatever is left to join the stuff in storage.

This is actually slightly better as upstairs is a total pigsty and now removal men do not have to go upstairs (will close all doors in case one of them needs toilet!). All furniture and packed boxes are now in sitting room ready to go for tomorrow. I do not want to pack my life up ever, ever again and promise faithfully not to hoard so much clutter in the next house.

Garden toys have now all gone to inlaws (except for a few bits my sister is borrowing for her girls).

    I still hate packing.

Break for bacon and egg sandwiches then back to it!

Well, our update is that we have been given a provisional date for exchange and completion of 17 august - I'm not really too happy about doing this on a friday just in case things go wrong and we are left with all our belongings on the back of a van for a weekend.

I have gone back requesting a monday or tuesday - is there a reason why most completions occur on a friday?

Hopefully, we might just get moved and settled just before the start of the new term....:T :T

    Hi all.

Glad you have a date to work to roosterbean:j

I did have one untill I placed a call to my SOL's yesterday.
The plan that my sellers had give my SOL's wasn't clear enough so they have requested a new one, and because of this THE SEARCHES HAVE NOT BEEN APPLIED FOR YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I gave the SOL's a ring on monday and said if everything comes back OK with the additional enquiries I would like to exchange next week and they said that "yes that was a real possibility"!!!!!!!! OBVIOUSY NOT:mad:

I am so gutted because after they told me that I started packing:mad:
I have jinxed the whole thing!!

 Oh Dattasatta, I really do feel for you <<hugs>>. Don't blame yourself, blame the idiots that don't do the job they are paid to do. How long do the searches take at that council? Can they be applied for via email?

My solicitor/estate agent still hasn't rung to tell me our preferred date is ok - today I started packing too!!

Keep us posted and best of luck....

Dattasatta - if it's any consolation our searches were really quick to come back (all within a week I think my Sol said)... hopefully your Sol has a good relationship with the council and can get these pushed through for you.

I keep thinking I'm jinxing mine too by packing - but in reality we're all being organised which is a good thing!!

Rooster - fingers crossed that your preferred date is OK.

Our latest (mini) update is that we should be exchanging sometime next week, if all the parties complete the paperwork that they keep saying they're "progressing". We're aiming for the 17th as our completion, 24th as the worst case and never a horrible possibility!!!
