Has anyone had any dealings with the Co-Op bank? I'm thinking about transferring my business account to them as they offer a fee free service on day to day transactions.

I have a realistic view of myself based upon experience. Whilst I can see why others may think it is one of "agonising self loathing" that is not the case. How other can someone that has never reached their potential be described?

What about: on a journey, enjoying successes, learning from mistakes made and getting there eventually? Much like everybody else really.

ETA: and I forgot to expand on the bits about excellent father, long-suffering husband and dutiful son (despite provocation to be otherwise), pen lover etc etc

maman: That's far too positive for my liking. ;)

Seriously, I do see where you are coming from though it is very difficult for me to see beyond the past. I am aware I must stop concentrating on things that I can now do nothing about but something stops me from moving on.

I asked you for a purpose, sorry about that. I have a DS and a friend has 2. I know that if I give my DS a lot of money it will go & sit in the bank. He won't spend it but neither will he put it somewhere to get as much interest as possible. My friend's eldest would put it somewhere safe with interest to save for a mortgage, her youngest will just blow the lot. So if we know this about our offspring, why didn't your parents. Please stop blaming yourself, what happened was inevitable.

Knowing what I know now, I think my parents probably just wanted to give me what they never had. Recently, I've found out quite a lot about their lives before I came along: they've lived in a couple of houses worse than the ones they rent out now, come rather close to losing everything a few times and generally not had an easy time. Both of them have always tried to hide their own backgrounds, especially father which I can understand.

It seems that it never occurred to them that I wouldn't understand the value of money.

    Hi Hokey,

Thank you, I hope you have a nice Christmas too. We (well my son) has been quite in the spirit of things since "the Elf" put the decorations up on the eve of the 1st.

I hope you are well and settling in over the pond.

I have a little secondary personal account with them which I opened to be the 'hub' for my DMP. I actually rarely use it for various reasons and crack on with the Gnats Vest :) !!

The service has been excellent when I have used them. The Co-op Bank does, of course have serious problems and has been caused to be severely embarrassed in the big financial circles. Rather than allow you to let that put you off I would be encouraged by it as they have a point to prove and I am convinced their hearts are in a better place than many of the big banks. If it stacks up go for it :) !!

Your debt-busting is something to be very proud of by the way :T Well done!

Hi Alex, still haven't made it over the Atlantic yet - the visa process has taken a whole lot longer than we anticipated. Hopefully we can sort it by the end of January.

Bet your son is really excited for the festive season! :) Hope you all have a lovely time together.

Thank you for the input and comment on the service. :) I'm more interested by the fact they seem to be the only bank offering a fee free business account than their reputation in the wider world of finance.

At the moment I am also with "Gnats vest", whilst my personal banking requirements are very simple and are completely charge free, they charge quite a bit of money for the business account. Not sure being able to easily transfer between accounts is worth the extra cost either.

I am pleased with my efforts to become debt free, it has required quite the change in lifestyle, not in order to clear the debts as such but to stay debt free. Although, it seems my wife is determined to do whatever she can to undermine my efforts.

    Hi Hokey,

I had presumed you'd been in the US for a few months now. Hope you manage to get the visa sorted soon.

We are trying our best to make Christmas magical for our son, though not by spending an awful lot of money. The elf idea has been a great one and he's still enjoying it this year, hopefully there's a few more years left of happy Christmases to be enjoyed. Even I am getting into the spirit. :)
