HBS: Thank you, I am looking forward to this particular nightmare being over.

Unfortunately, in recent weeks the frugal living has been not going so well and though Mrs. K. promised to clear her cards, she is finding it very difficult.

I have exactly the same problem with Mr Minx. He's always 'Oh, I'm paying them off at £1000 a month, they'll be clear by July' and then July comes round and somehow the balance is still the same. He hasn't quite got the hang of not spending on them at the same time as paying them off...

  • I think I'm the opposite - I put the holding deposit for my car on my credit card so I could get S75 protection, and am now panicking that there's actually a balance on my card!! Ha ha!

I tried to pay it when I got home but the transaction is still pending and it's really annoying me :)

Hello Alex and everyone in this thread!

    Thank you.

I have to admit I'm not doing very well this month and have bought quite a few things I do not need. I've also added a piece to one of my collections which I have to admit I couldn't really afford to do.

Business is slow and I'm struggling to find the motivation. Whilst I will still be personally debt free in December (not counting the mortgage), I am apprehensive about the future and do not know what to do with my life. Not to mention we need to start clearing the smallish balances on Mrs. K.'s cards.

Currently, I'm feeling very irresponsible and would like nothing more than to save my son from prep school drudgery by taking a very slow drive around the world.

  • Hello Alex,

I think I know what you mean about buying things you don't need! In my case, the after effect of buying things I don't need is frustration, anger with myself for being weak grrrr, aghhhh! regret!
I had so much trouble with wasting money and drinking, then feeling dreadful! I regret so much about wasting money in things I didn't need, and there are times I think if only I have used that money to make better investments...but you live and learn...
Sometimes, focusing in the present can make us feel anxious and it;s the same if we start focusing in the future...
Personally, I think you have done great! You were full of doubts about whether one day you will ever become debt free and yet you are one step from achieving this!

What is stopping you from travelling around the world with your son? why not whilst he is still very young? I think a taking a break has positive effects...we all need a break...

    Regards,
    No debts 🙌
  • Hello All!

Haven't been here in ages - guilt at not being very MSE perchance? :o I have a long list of grown-up responsible things to do gathering dust somewhere...

Fantastic job on the debtbusting, Alex! :T

Virtual champagne & posh pens (virtual too ;)) all round come the end of December, then?

Then we need to start working on your low morale... might be a tougher job than your debts!:rotfl:

    See you soon.

    Regards,

I generally agree with the post-spending regret. However, it has been so long since I've bought anything that I can't say I'm particularly concerned at the moment. I do know that I can't afford to keep adding to my collections every couple of weeks unless it's something I can sell on at a profit.

You are not the only one regretting how much money was wasted (quite literally) in the past. I will always have to deal with the shame of greatly disappointing my parents, too.

Thanks, I am pleased that my own personal debts will be gone. I'm also glad that I have managed to pay the debts back by myself, much to everyone's surprise.

As for travelling the world; I realised that over the years I've been on plenty of holidays but not really seen much of the world. Why can't I go? I couldn't leave my wife here and she would not give up her job, my parents would be further disappointed in me and I'm aware I must stop running away from my problems.

    Hello GranariesGirl,

Thank you for your kind post.

Why does it not surprise me that you've not been very MSE? ;)
