£89 ! Am so jealous. But had a good morn. Had £200 car insurance budget based on last year. Through top cashback compare got £165 quote plus £30 cashback, plus £10 gift voucher. So £65 for new car fund, and £10 towards Christmas pressies. Mental gymnastics wear me out, but just need to keep old car going till the new car fund is built! I've never looked after cars properly:o
Horror stories about nurseries!?!?!?!? There's lots of horror stories about the human race, but I still plunge in every day0 -
Perhaps, this start to a new way of life should also try to incorporate less dwelling on the past and more looking to the future.
I would agree with this. Change what you can, and if you can't change it, let it go. I used to mentally tie my negative thoughts to balloons and visualise them floating off
Also regarding the pens - try a little mindset change...think about what they DO rather than what they ARE...in the end, that expensive piece of metal does the same as a £5 fountain pen from WHSmith. And that's coming from someone who likes to write longhand and used to practise calligraphy
Good luck with the phone calls and the GP. Lots of good wishes!

Hey Alex just popping in to say hello and to wish you good fortune today with all your tasks, especially contacting the creditors and the docs.
Sounds like you had a lovely weekend. Wish we could wangle a free roast dinner every Sunday, but we live miles away from all of my family and hubby's family are so busy most of the time.
I think you've had a great last week, and I've really enjoyed following your diary. Looking forward to the next exciting installment!!0 -
Hi Alex,
Just popped in to say hello, too! :hello:
You have come SO far in a week, it's fantastic - HURRAH for you & Mrs K! :T
Her "wish list" for the no holiday year sounds great fun - she really is a petrolhead!
About depression: I had a moment (failing house renovation, nasty neighbour, seriously ill parent) when I just couldn't take it anymore (panic attacks & not being able to face the world) & I went to my GP who prescribed me bromazepam ONLY to be taken when a panic attack occurred or I felt I was gathering speed "downhill". "1/4 tablet when necessary" were his instructions!
It worked like a dream. Just the fact that it switched off my "give a f###ometer" for an hour or so gave me the breathing space I needed & made me able to function (almost) normally.
I still have the original pack prescribed to me: sometimes if I feel things are getting out of control, just knowing it's there if things get worse is enough to get me through & out the other side...
I also did yoga & cycling & walked everywhere as he stressed the importance of exercise.
Drinking was a no-no as it nullifies the effect of the drug...
I guess what I'm trying to say is IF you get prescribed something for your depression, ask for something you can take "when necessary" rather than constantly. That way you don't get zombified. Good luck at the GP.0 -

This is really true. My mum has terrible anxiety when travelling but says just knowing she has her "happy pills" in her bag makes it so much easier, so much so she rarely has to actually take one. It took time to get to that stage, but when she was locked up in her room for 6 weeks we never thought she would even go outside again, so its a massive victory for her.0 -
Hey everyone,
Thank you all for your messages and sorry I am going to reply to you in bulk for now.
I am still alive, just a tremendously busy day. However, not had time to feel down so that's a positive. The spending has been rather high today though
, mind there was nothing I could really do about that as none of it were non-essential (petrol, groceries, council tax and a little off the debts finally).
Calling the creditors worked well for three: CC1 which is still with the bank has frozen interest and agreed to 6 months at £10 per month (whilst I save up to pay it off), CC2 which is with a collection agency has similarly accepted an offer of £10 per month for 6 months. CC3 which is with a collection agency has accepted an offer of £20 per month for 6 months. CC4 (with the bank) has been very awkward and rather "F U" about the whole thing, so I have threatened to get the Ombudsman involved, we shall wait and see on that then. Anyway, I've paid £40 off the debts today, so very pleased.
As far as the doctors goes I'm being referred to a specialist because of my "previous history". Basically been given some pills (which are apparently meant to not make one feel drugged up), told to cut down the alcohol (already done that) and to do 20 minutes exercise per day.
Will write my diary entry later as I ought to have something to eat now (with no wine tonight!).
2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -

Wow, that is such a good result re the cards. Actually, it's pretty amazing....
£10 pcm is a really good deal too....so now the urgency (no pressure) is to money-save like mad to offer F+F when each deal ends....as they will get in touch at the end of the agreed period to either, increase the monthly amount or keep it the same....and, obviously, keep the interest frozen.
Good news about the doctors appointment too.
What's your 20 mins going to be of? Star-jumps, press-ups and sit-ups in a set...or a nice brisk walk.
Each 'weight' is being ticked off the list bit by bit...it's how we all do it.
I will try to pop in tonight as I was' fretting' about you being a SAHD fulltime (when Mrs K goes back to work FT) and trying to fit in the other 2 jobs with no structured childcare in place. By fretting, I don't mean in a nosy, bossy way....just crossed my mind as having a3 YO at home FT is a FT job in itself.
Maybe something more regular with your parents by arrangement so they know which day/s they have him and for how long at any one time.
I was also thinking about your mum and the cousins chat and I don't think she was doing it to put you down in anyway (as she doesn't sound like that sort of mother to me from the little things you have said) but, maybe, it was her way of trying to 'inspire you'. Does that make sense? I know it didn't work (:)) but if you see it from her side, it's a kind, older generation way of trying to help?0 -
Well done on speaking to the CCs. Must have been quite daunting. Good job!Mortgage when started: £330,995
