    Debt-free and Proud!
    Friday 8th November, 2013.
    Day 69.

    Dear Diary,

Apart from two hours music teaching, today I gave myself a day off work. Truth be told I needed it, if only to step away and take stock a little. I'm alive, which is more than I should be and have a wife who has stuck with me when many others would have ran and a wonderful son. Making excuses is not going to bring my family any closer to me, nor is trying to run away from responsibility. I have realised that whilst I've recently had some positive times that have made me feel alive once again, my depression has not been fully conquered and likely will always be in the background. Therefore, I have booked a session with a counsellor, even though I will be paying for the service - not very MSE, I know.

On the debt busting front, I managed to sort some more items out to put on eBay even if they will not be going on today. I imagine they will not be listed until next week but they are there, ready and waiting. I do want to succeed at getting debt free.

Tonight I feel rather proud of myself for not taking the easy option, even though I am still afraid what tomorrow will bring.

    Summary:
    +£50.00 Music Teaching.
    -£7.80 Groceries.

    Yours Faithfully,
    Alex.
    2018 totals:
    Savings £11,200
    Mortgage Overpayments £5,500

Re Slow Cookers - there is a large 3 lt one on Tesco site for £12 if you just wnated a cheap one to see if you'd use it.

    We cross posted I think.

Good to see a counsellor - don't worry about the money - your health is worth it.

Its often worth listing items at weekends on ebay as they often do free listing weekends.

  • Bl##d# h#ll what a day my dear . You do achieve what your parents do on the days you feel alive, but in a better, more caring way

Well, it looks like we've just spent £12. Wish us luck and I've no idea what we are going to make with it. :rotfl:

    I think we did too.

I hope this experience will be a more positive experience than my last (I have seen a counsellor before). In many ways, I do not think I deserve to be happy, thus avoided this for a long time.

Often items are listed at weekends. :)

Bess, thank you but as much as I am flattered by your comment, my parents were very successful during their working lives. Ashamedly, I haven't got what it takes.

However, I care a great deal about my family and if I had to, I'd go without for them, for I failed my wife and son when I did not manage to be a success in my working life.

Alex - there are many ways of measuring success - being a good father is high up on the list.

Oh yes - good luck with the slow cooker -cannot do any harm and at least you can have a hot meal waiting in the evening.

Roland: Thank you. I try everyday to be a good father to my son, not sure if I've ever made the grade yet though. I just hope striving to and doing my best is good enough.

ETA: That's if Mrs. K. and I work out how to use it .

Here seems a good British site with clear recipes - slowcookerrecipes.org.uk

  • It's your choice. Money or be a good father? Do you really believe you've chosen the wrong priority. Ask your dad what is the most important thing.
