HBS: Thank you for the tips. However, I fail to see how NOT buying a dishwasher / slow cooker is an excuse to spend money?
Well I think it means you use the excuse of not having a dishwasher or slow cooker to spend more money by eating out all the time - rather than buy them and cook at home - which to be honest it doesn't sound as if you want to much.
You can also do meals in a pressure cooker or do veg in an electric steamer - which is what I always use.
For three people I would say you should be able to do the washing up very easily and no need for a dishwasher - like all boring jobs - just get on with it - same as with cleaning toilets - no one particularly relishes doing it - but it has to be done..Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
gallygirl: That only did the trick of making me feel really quite bad.
I do know how to do wok cooking but that only works for doing Chinese and I don't want a Chinese everyday.
. Though you do sound like one of those 'awful single parents' you were so keen for Little K to avoid :rotfl:. I use the wok for almost everything and would use for even more if I had one with a lid . That and the slow cooker covers most things, the pressure cooker covers the rest :T.

Yip ... Too many excuses not to change your thinking, A freezer is a busy persons best asset, So easy to batch cook for an hour or so at the weekend, knock up three or four different dinners .. double portions of them all, Shove them in the freezer, Take out to defrost in the morning, or use your other best appliance .. the microwave , to defrost as youre cooking the potatos or rice or chips .. easy peasy.
Get on with it Alex, Its good healthy home cooked food, wont give you an ulcer or make you feel sick cos youve overdone the monosodiumglutamate ...
AND its cheaper . Win /Win
Got to agree here.
Alex, I think you might need to knuckle down and sort out the food situation. Using some of the suggestions that have been given, you could quite easily shave a good few ££'s off the food bill.
The money you save on food can be used for treats, as part of a sustainable debt free lifestyle.Early retired - 18th December 2014

VJsmum: Thank you. Yes, we could make those things very easily, I just didn't count them as "proper meals". However, I realise I have been somewhat stupid.
Roland: I see, I'm not having a particularly good evening. Also, it's not just down to me, my wife doesn't seem to want to help much. When we do things together, we make some really nice meals.
Gallygirl: Very funny. With regards to the wok, perhaps we'll have a look for some recipe to cook tomorrow as it's Mrs. K.'s half day at work.
Goldiegirl: Thank you. I hope today's failure isn't the sign of more regular occurrences.2018 totals:

Day 68.
Dear Diary,
I have got to admit to falling off the wagon a little today in regard to frugality, which completely went out the window by lunch time when consuming a Brandy laced coffee with my father, whoops. With our son at nursery this afternoon and my parents willing to pick him up, I decided to treat Mrs. K. to a meal out. Well, £45.00 later I am regretting it, even my wife said she thought we were wasting money. We were, especially when only yesterday I was asking for tips on here to reduce our food bill.
On the positive side, I've had a few deals come through, one of which I was not really expecting to happen and a couple of things I relisted on eBay have now made their reserves. Nothing new listed though.
Summary:
+£25.00 Music Teaching.
-£45.00 Pub Meal.
-£4.65 Groceries.
-£3.45 Cafe.
Yours Faithfully,
Alex.2018 totals:

Hello Alex,
We always have our up and downs! I had a completely dreadful couple of days! Today I went to a seminar in the town then we all went to the Living Room! Uffff now I am heading back home in a black cab... I know how it feels to feel ' guilt' and when I do feel that dreaded feeling , I also feel sick! I have learnt that I might not be all of an MsExpert but I am on the road ! Little by little we shall conquer our westing money habits!!
You have been with your dad right? That counts as a quality time ! Hahaha

:rotfl: I still haven't managed to part with any more of my pen collection yet. I know a few will have to go but I'll see how close we get once we've cleared out the things we don't want.2018 totals:

I agree not everyday can be perfect. I'm not sure anybody is 100% a MSE'er ALL of the time in all honesty. However, we're all on the road as you say.

Oh yes but thats doing things together and having fun sort of cookery.
What you need to get used to is the ordinary just cooking a quick meal sort of thing - not a once in a blue moon event.
Thats the difference between doing some fancy embroidery as a hobby when you feel like it compared to shortening son's trousers for school when you are tired and have a headache!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0
