Explorer's kit sounds like a great idea. You could add a little magnifying glass and an explorer's hat?Mortgage when started: £330,995

Home made Explorers Kit.................fab you are getting the idea
Look here for ideas
Ditto what Mara saying re other people............wasn't it someone on here that said dont try and keep up with the Joneses cos they are probably in debt too:rotfl:
Oh and the cardboard boxes...........I work with 3- 7 year olds and when we bought over £2K of toys and equipment we put all the boxes in the playground and they had days and days of fun before they even looked at all the new stuff .....really fired the imagination and brought on their speech, language, communication and social skills.
My pet hate ad on TV at moment is one where a child is sitting with its mother ( I presume she represents its mother) and is 'interacting' with an electronic bear which claps etc........child claps and looks to 'mother' who grins inanely at bear and claps too......!!!!!!!Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Yes cardboard boxes - sons loved them. I used to bring a car full back from supermarket every visit and he turned his bedroom into a huge den and could go inside his cardboard house - so much fun.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

The explorers kit sounds fun - you could get a little 'I Spy' book of things to search for - and have little jars to collect things in - plus some binoculars.
One thing he'd love would be a treasure hunt laid out - we did one once on our garden for a kids party. Gifts don't have to be expensive.
Also one thing my boys loved to death was their cars and a Fisher Price garage.
Sounds great. As for the treasure hunt, what a great idea ... you've got Mrs. K. planning a route already :rotfl:
. That is if any of his nursery friends accept an invitation
.
We've got lots and lots of model cars for him to play with:).LannieDuck wrote: »Explorer's kit sounds like a great idea. You could add a little magnifying glass and an explorer's hat?

Thank you, will have a look. The other thing we were thinking of is building a model farm but Mrs. K.'s family have already got him some farm animals.
I can assure you these "Joneses" we are trying to keep up with (my parents) are absolutely, 100% not in debt and yes, I do feel as if I've got to live up to expectations from them.Whilst they have not told me what they've spent on our son, I've seen the presents and know it's a lot of money.
Fortunately, Mrs. K. and I do have good imaginations (I've actually wrote a collection of bedtime stories for him). As for that bear !!!!!! indeed! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: You've made my day with that one!

We have a small playroom (was once a conservatory
) so could definitely do something like that. Mrs. K. even loves spending time at home when it's play time. :rotfl:

Alex, you are preaching to the choir: I have sold the ring my parents gave me for my 16th birthday, my mothers cameo, and the locket my father gave me for Christmas the year my mother passed. I understand sentiment all too well but I also have placed being debt free as my number one priority. I consider it to trump every material possession I own. It's just stuff, and stuff never made anyone happy.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0

I know some of the stuff has got to go, even though quite a bit of it means so much to me, it just doesn't seem to make it any easier.
Mrs. K. is also going to see a car next week. :eek:2018 totals:

I hope Mrs K is only going to be 'looking' at the car and no more!!!!
:D:D:D
You know as well as most of us with your knowledge of cars that it's never just the cost of buying them and your priority and hers is to get debt free and sell sell sell not buy! :money:
PS - love the idea of an explorers kit - you could even do explorer-themed party food! You should go on Pinterest - they'd have some great ideas.
PPS - may be a bit late in the year now but I saw a great idea for young kids to freeze toys in a giant block of ice + give the kids some toy tools and let them spend hours hacking at the block of ice to get the toys out!!!!Maybe something to put away for next summer now even though it's unseasonably mild! But completely free!!!
PPPS - keep up the good work. We all get that feeling of giving up after a couple of months but don't let the slump get you down - mine caused me to chop all the cards up in a crazy rage!Best thing I ever did!!!!!!!!
