Why - does she have wine up there :D.

That's what you need to do - break their spirit when they're young ;).

I think you need to have words with Mrs K - the weekend starts tomorrow night so surely Friday night should be wine o'clock :T.

    LOL, I hope not!

Stop encouraging me re. the wine!:rotfl:

Have a look at your local sure start centres (you should be able to link from your local council's website) and see if any of them do 'Dad's sessions'. Two of the centres near me do them - one is once a month on a saturday, and the other is every thurs morning. However, I'm in London so we may have more choice here.

I bet your son would love to play with kids his own age, and it might be good for you to get to know some other male carers in the area. I keep trying to convince my OH to go (he's a SAHD), but he's happy socialising with the SAHM's from our NCT group, which is fine with me.

I've got to admit when I first read this post, I balked at the idea of being considered a "SAHD". However, I'm not really sure why that should bother me?

We will have a look to see where the local sure start centre is, I suspect it will be in Matlock or Bakewell (nearest big towns). You'll have a LOT more choice being in London for just about EVERYTHING. :( Sometimes I miss living in a city.

This morning has been a bit surreal, had three shops place very decent orders in the space of an hour! It's looking like really might be able to give myself a bonus if this carries on. :)

Mrs. K. is home early today so I am trying to find something for us to do this afternoon that doesn't cost a lot of money (really going to try and stick with this whilst the motivation is high), as much as I like exploring the countryside, she doesn't. That said about the motivation, I did start looking at holidays whilst a customer was on the phone wondering if I could send Mrs. K. and son alone as she works really hard and deserves a nice break, nor did she get us into this mess.:o

ETA: There's one in both towns! I am utterly amazed.

Get off the holiday website NOW ! You got into this mess together and thats how you will get out of it.
If youre still having these ideas, You really havent had your lightbulb moment yet.
Now .. this afternoon, If you dont have to work, why dont you make up a nice picnic from stuff in the cupboards, and head off to a park with a pond & some ducks ... If you have it already made up when she gets home, Im quite sure she would rather have lunch in the fresh air somewhere (hope the suns shining where you are too ! - It is in Orkney ! ) Free entertainment feeding the ducks with bread :)
Its just a bad day, Not a bad life ..

No need to feel bad about being a SAHD - I was a SAHM and I don't think you can do a more important job than being there for your children.

Have you explored your local parks? Lots have play equipment to keep little ones happy.
Or why not all go swimming together in the toddlers pool - we used to go every week - and finish up with chips in the cafe!

Yes we used to love feeding ducks - and squirrels!

I never get it myself that people feel they deserve holidays - its probably more stressful traveling with a toddler than staying at home and having fun.
Toddlers don't need holidays - just someone to play with - making home-made play dough or doing lots of sticking and painting - needn't cost anything really.

The weather is nice here too and a picnic sounds a lovely idea, we used to take the Triumph for a run and have a picnic before our son was born, pity it's only got two seats.

As far as work goes, so long as I don't have to see clients I can do the rest at whatever time of day and I've no appointments today. I have ideas all the time about spending money we don't have but am trying to resist it - surely one cannot go from spendaholic to not having any thoughts about spending money overnight?

There is a park not too far away and our son enjoys going. It's another place Mrs. K. usually avoids because of the "village mums", though he often goes to the park when my parents are looking after him.

7roland8 - Thank you. :) Other people have said the same thing before, though there is the odd time I wonder if they are sneering behind my back. Still, I wouldn't return to my old life which is something Mrs. K. and I have been discussing these past few days. She has started to realise a lot that went on in the past was not me merely "attention seeking" as her family has told her. I suppose, we've had a bit of a rough patch these past few months.

Swimming is in our diaries for tomorrow!

Roland - LOL about the travelling, yes he can be a bit of a nightmare on flights. We've done long haul once since our son was born and decided it was a bad idea until he gets older (school age at least). As for deserving holidays, Mrs. K. likes her sun! :)

We could have a cheap holiday to Spain as my parents have an apartment in Marbella. However, according to my wife the place is "tacky" ... :o, so she refuses to go. Maybe in a couple of years when she's desperate, eh? ;)

We like painting, sticking and play dough in this house! Glad we aren't the only ones that are a bit "old fashioned" in our attempts to amuse our son. :) I might print that poster out and give it to Mrs. K. ..... :rotfl: ..... that'll be me sleeping in the spare room for a fortnight if I do!

No cook play dough - great fun to make and play with - we used to drive our 'cars' over it and make a heck of a mess!!

Aww, didn't mean to label you as a SAHD (wasn't quite clear about your childcare arrangements), but the sure start centres will welcome all dads :)

Edit: I can't find an online timetable for either of the centres you mentioned, but if you e-mail them I'm sure they'll send you one, or you can ask them directly about sessions for Dads.
