However, they have been ringing all week and confirmed with my wife today that we'd be over on Sunday.
Well perhaps they have now realised they overstepped the mark with all the criticisms.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -
Get well soon! There's loads of bugs and stuff going around

Well done Alex, perhaps a little distance from the parents will make them appreciate you more, after all, you're an adult yourself now, and don't really need their approval for anything.
If the conversation looks like heading that way tomorrow, just ask to change the subject as some things are not up for discussion.
Your figures look great, hopefully soon you'll be in a position to make those f&f offers and you'll head off into the sunset and we will be left wondering how the hell you're getting on ! Lol
Have a good weekend, and I hope you shake off the lurgy soon. Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0 -
Hello everyone and thank you!
Today has not been so great, Mrs. K. and I were going through our finances and found we still spend a little more than our given budget. I'm still not well. However, I did manage to get some work done with Mrs. K. home.2018 totals:
Savings £11,200
Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
Ok, so theres an overspend .. Have you identified where it is ? Is it something you can cut back on next week ?Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0

We spend a little more on petrol / fuel than we first budgeted for and completely forgot to account for Mrs. K.'s lunch / coffees at work (about £35 per week!). I only write down what I spend, Mrs. K. does not.2018 totals:

An easy mistake, would she be willing to take packed lunches ? Or is this something which has to be factored in at the cost of something else ?
Don't be too hard on yourselves, you're still new at this ... Just don't do the pub dinner this week, and you're covered . Easy peasyIts just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0 -
Hello there!
I've been away on holiday, and I'm just beginning to catch up with the online world.
I've just dipped in to a couple of posts, and would just like to congratulate you on your honesty. I admire your openness and how you are becoming more self aware - although I think you can be rather tough on yourself.
I think you are making great progress.
Re the question of education. It seems both you and your parents want your son to have a prep school / public school education, but it all seems to be about you and your parents....... Not about your son.
You know your son best - is he the sort of child who will thrive in that sort of environment? Or would some other educational route suit him better?
You could spend a fortune to educate him, but if the schools aren't right for him, then it wouldn't be a good education.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
Hope you feel better soon.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I thought this too but Mrs. K. likes to "socialise" with her workmates and go to lunch with them. Personally, I am not pleased her "going to lunch" costs us £140 per month but I have "taken enough" from her recently. In all honesty, I'm rather annoyed as she would go ballistic if my son and I ate out every lunchtime.Goldiegirl wrote: »Hello there!

Hello and thank you for such an encouraging post.
I'm doing much better than I ever thought possible to be honest!
As for my son, he is a clever boy. I was never educated in the state system so know very little about it. Personally, I think he would do well in my old school. We were considering seeing if we could enrol him both at my old prep school and the local village school meaning we could decide nearer the time depending on our financial situation and my relationship with my parents.2018 totals:

I dont understand " ive taken enough from her " . Hasnt she benefitted from the overspending too ? Isnt it a family debt rather than all yours ?
If shes expecting you to cut back on socialising surely she can at least cut her social lunches by half ?
You cant do it all by yourself Alex, youre doing admirably, but unless you can live within your means, you will find yourselves back in debt in no time.
But you dont need me to tell you that, do you ?Its just a bad day, Not a bad life .. :cool:0
