    Great thread everyone.
im thinking of upgrading our old dimplex xln storage heater in the hallway to a same size quantum 150 . my existing one obviously runs off economy 7 and has its separate feed from its independent economy 7 fuse box .
would this be a simple swap over and would the existing 2.5mm power cable run from a 15amp economy 7 fuse box be suffient/safe to run the new quantum .
i also have a separate 13amp vacant socket next to my existing heater which i could convert into a fused spur to power the 24hr supply of ther new quantum and would that be ok to do !
Thanks in advance as any help on this matter would be extremely appreciated
ps are these quantums as cost effective as first stated

An 'old dimplex XLE'? But they've only been making them a couple of years. :)

I don't think Quantum are going to save you £900 over the life of them!

Sorry I meant XLN and it must be close to 30 years old and definitely NOT efficient as the quantum which is why I chose it

I have vastly improved the performance of XLN storage heaters in my rentals by installing one of these controllers:

It requires connecting to a contactor (relay) in the consumer unit connected to the storage heaters. I think this might be better value than quantum heaters.
  • Hi there,
By now I believe you have plenty of experience with these storage heaters. Can you please share your experience with them. I’m especially curious about the running costs. We are about to buy our first electric only flat and I am terrified about the electric heating running costs. The flat has Economy 7 meter. I would like to maintain a reasonable temperature all day. 18 degrees around night, 20 during the day. To the bedrooms I’m planning to fit Q-Rad heaters, Quantum SH to the living room & lounge.
    Many thanks!

I have had the quantum 100 installed about 7 months ago and have never been able to get a good heat source from the overnight charge

i have now contacted dimplex and await there solution but the only way i seem able to get a good heat source is by using the boost option despite charging overnight

I have the G series model as well so i would assume this has the latest software
  • I’ve just had Quantum QM125RF fitted. Worked out the controls etc but I’ve noticed when heat is “on”, it’s making a clicking noise quite a lot of the time. Very noticeable. Is this just it settling in or shouldn’t it be doing that? Also, when heat is “on” should the fan be blowing all the time? It does for a while, can feel it blasting heat out but then it stops (although I can still feel heat when I put my hand down by the grille). The panel doesn’t show any error codes and says “heat on”. Not sure if it’s doing what it’s meant to do or not! Any help gratefully received.

Hi. I know this is a pretty old thread but maybe someone is out there.

I just had a Dimplex Quantum QM100RF installed as part of a government heating scheme. But so far I am not impressed and don't see how it will save me money compare to my old Creda TSR18MW.  A few points:

    1. The Quantum has stored up heat over night, just like my old one. However, because there is a grille at the top back of the heater the heat just filters up the wall. The Dimplex website says the heat comes out of the front bottom grill. Yes it does, but only when the fan is activated in the Heater On mode or Boost mode. Otherwise heat is being wasted through the top grille up the wall. Why on earth is that grille not at the front?
    2. I am now using Peak rate electricity when the heater is in Heater On mode. My old heater threw out enough heat during the day to heat my living room without needing to use peak time electricity. I thought I would be able to switch off any daytime activity and just use the heat stored by letting it come out naturally like my old heater. I can by not having the timer come on, but because of the location of the top grille/vent all that heat is lost up the wall and I'm now spending money on peak time operation to heat the room. This makes no sense. How much electricity does the fan actually use?
    3. The only positive I can see is if I need a boost of heat at some point. But my old heater seemed to heat the room quite adequately for most of the day.
    4. Dimplex claim that it will save me 27% electricity, compared to my old heater. How? I know it is supposed to learn the environment and adjust what it draws during the night, but it is still costing me peak time electricity, when I otherwise would not have an extra device running. How does that work?

I'm seriously thinking of reinstalling my old heater as I can only feel heat out of this one when the fan is operating in Heater On mode. I feel cold compared what I'm used to from my old heater and I now have added noise of a fan and metal cooling down clicks.

    Any opinions on this?

    Cheers

    Tracy

The Quantum QM100 has a smaller capacity than the Creda. Maybe it’s undersized for the room.
Not sure why there would be heat from the top grill if the ‘Heater On’ mode is off.
Maybe ventilation for electronics rather than stored heat,
    Fan is low wattage.

Why are you having to use peak electric ? if you have stored it overnight and have set your timer it will use the heat stored and if you require more just click advance and it will again use the heat that has been  stored
