    Well I've got my offer but it's in the child maintenance service and given the number of nightmare stories I've heard from people who work there I'm minded to turn it down
    It's got the biggest staff turnover of any Department in the Civil Service - so there must be some truth in the stories!
  • Isnt it now if you get offered a position and turn it down your taken off the list?

    it is likely that a lot of vacancies in Belfast will be in child support as they have a big processing centre there.

    if you take the job and hate it you can always leave or stick it out for a couple of years and then look for an internal transfer to something else
  • Did you all apply for permanent or temporary in the AO competition. I applied for both but only got through to the temporary competition and was told I am on the merit list. Has anyone even been hired yet? I'd be curious to know how far down the list they are so far.

    I only applied for the permanent positions so no idea about the temporary competition. Hopefully someone will be able to offer some info.
  • I emailed HR Connect on Monday and they got back to me saying;

    "Currently 74 candidates have been allocated in posts.

    Please be aware that candidates are being placed in order and the areas chosen by Candidates also impacts candidates being placed from this list."
  • Well I turned down my offer so that's one more place available
  • Hi Guys, bit of a side step here but I have an interview for a semi CS job this week, LRA. The application form had 9 competencies on it in which I had to briefly give an example, would I be best focusing on these or any other advice for me?? I usually use STAR process etc.. for structure.. Thanks, :)

    Funky,

    STAR is still the best fit. Just remember to focus on the action and result. Situation and task should not need to be more than about 30 seconds of your answer.
    If they have listed 9 areas for what I assume will be a 45 min interview, then you will only have about 3 - 3.5 minutes for each answer. Make sure you prepare accordingly. Don't be afraid to almost spoon feed the panel back the points from each of the competences as they are listed. Makes it easier for them to mark you!

    Oh, and good luck!
  • Thanks Bingo, would you say all CS interviews are based solely on competencies listed or would it be prudent to spend some time resaerching the history/ways of working etc.. of the target area/department? Thanks again..
