Riding lesson was cancelled by instructor as she (a) had a sore throat and (b) it was raining. I was really disappointed - but - have used the time in a hopefully positive way.

After reading on here and being inspired by Tilly and some of the other great cooks I think the way to get our food bills down is to do more batch cooking and fill the freezer with quick meals and things we really want to eat rather than the random selection of 'stuff' in there. So, I started out by making an inventory of the freezer and then meal planned for next week using stuff up. Then did an online shop. My new plan is to work on filling the freezer with home cooked meals rather than just a random selection of meat and odds and ends.

I also need to do a proper inventory of the cupbards but work was calling!

And gotta laugh more products for the bathroom cupboard! :rotfl:A courier arrived clutching a parcel for me with goodies to review in. I love getting these parcels, its like Christmas :) This one contained a spa kit in a lovely blue spotty bag. Smells divine but contains yet more body lotion to add to the bathroom products cupboard:rotfl:But am looking forward to trying it out and might try and plan a nice spa like session in my decluttered bathroom. Ummm... who am I kidding, my nails are broken, my hair needs cutting desperately and I always resemble worzel gummidge rather than a model in a riding catalogue. Spa sessions are never going to happen around here. :rotfl:

Meanwhile everything on ebay has watchers so hopefully the clearout was worthwhile and will add some funds to the pot for overpaying. Alchemila was right . .. people do buy opened pots of stuff it would seem. Fingers crossed!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Today made up a Christmas Stocking ready for posting out to pal in the States. Delighted that it is ready as is usually a rush and last min job. And having done it early means it came in on budget too :)

Used up 2 pizza bases from the freezer. Goodness knows how long they had been in there as I'm not really a pizza fan! One more pizza base to go! And certainly wont be buying/making again! Plus baked a cake as part of the fill the freezer plan. Have cut the cake into quarters so I can remove part or all as needed.

Now back in office working away prepping for meeting tomorrow. Nothing like leaving it till the very last min! And then need to find concert tickets for tomorrow evening. In an MSE moment I bought unreserved seating and need to be there early. It was of course NOT very MSE to realise that to get out of London after meeting and to venue is very near impossible  so not sure we will make it but going to try!

Thank goodness October is done with. It was a franticallby busy month. We didnt make the concert Saturday, I was so exhausted I was asleep by 8.30 pm.

Yesterday riding lesson. New instructor FAB!!! What a star. Loved her. And so great with me and baby. A few really good ideas and ...drum roll.... I really want to practice what we did. That is just so cool. Mr Watty away at the moment and so am not sure I will as no one about - but - am inspired :T

Am planning to try to have a lesson with her every 4 or 5 days as I think that the stuff we did today will go a long way to restoring confidence. And I am going to continue with lunge lessons. And hacking out with neighbour. Am feeling so much happier about baby and riding. Long way to go but feel journey begun if that makes sense.

Now today I have a long list of *to dos* most of which involve catching up with stuff not done in October. Have 2 articles to write and umpteen piles of work that has built up mainly because I've been trying to cram everything into 4 days a week or maybe a bit less. As my work is the source of our overpayment funds, really need to crack on with working life too now. So, long list written, off to make a cup of tea and then to start the work......

  • Wow, that's great news Watty, I knew lessons would boost your confidence! I really want some too, like you say - to have something to focus on and work towards the next one.

    Just keep swimming!

    Thanks Floppy :)

Today was promising to be a NSD - but - after a trip to the doctors I popped into an antique come junk shop in village and bought a wooden/brass planter to use to store coal. It was £20 and will look so much better in the living room than the green plastic skip bucket we are currently using!

It needs a good clean and polish as is quite dingy so thats the plan for this evening. Under the kitchen sink I have found brasso and some wax so an evening off rennovating I think :)

Note to self: stay out of junk shops!

On a brighter financial note everything on ebay has bids already and someone is coming this evening to look at a car polisher that we want to sell too.

It does sound lovely Watty, and the kind of thing that you will have forever. Enjoy the polishing!

  • Yes, not an extravagance at all as a green plastic bucket in the living room would not be enhancing your life, I feel! Enjoy it!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

Pot looks lovely. Lots of brass cleaning wipes and then a wax with a dark furniture wax and a final polish and filled with coal.:) Plastic bucket now gone:T

Loved Squirrells comment about enhancing life. That really is the point I realised. If I am going to spend then it should be a joy!

Lunge lesson today. Again loved it. Lots of canter work without stirrups and definately getting easy to go into canter. Again really happy. Was such a great idea to take these lessons up.

No MFW news yet today...but it is still only lunchtime!

Hi Watty - well jel re your coal scuttle - if it should be down graded as such, sounds lovely :D. Also lots of polishing the saddle whilst cantering without stirrups. Well done you!
  • Oh well done!! I am jealous, I need to do so much work without stirrups but I'm too scared on the spookster! I know you thought about getting a western saddle and vetoed the cost, but what about a dressage saddle for the same reason? Not sure what you have at the moment but some GPs are a bit too jumpy and have you half out of the saddle as standard!

All the best as always x
