Nissan Juke

The main downside is the oddly shaped boot. If all you carry is a few bags of shopping and a suitcase once a year not an issue, if you need to carry four people with luggage avoid it.
Yep, I would agree with this.
Earlier in the year I ordered a rental car to transport myself and three other adults, and luggage on a 400 mile journey and back. A Ford Focus or similar was specified and they gave me a brand new diesel engined Nissan Juke instead.
I must admit I didn't check the boot space until it was time to set off and was disappointed in how small it was. I had assumed that given the size of the car, that it would be fairly reasonable. The car rental place was closed by then so I was stuck with it.
I think we managed 2 suitcases in the boot, and some other small bits and pieces, and the other 2 suitcases had to be wedged in the back seat in between the 2 passengers. It was tight in the back and couldn't have been very pleasant for them.
Other than the space issue though, it was a surprisingly nice car to drive. I found it pretty comfortable and it handled quite well.0 -
Can you point us towards a better new crossover for less?
Or is it easier just to criticise?

Never thought I'd recommend a Renault but the Joke is soooooo ugly.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
I've got a Juke and love it...you just have to accept it for what it is - a Micra on stilts.
So if you were a family of 5 with a couple of teenagers, would you pick the Micra as a practical car? No...so how would putting it on stilts help?
The boot *is* very small, but it's big enough for an overnight bag each for 4 people. The rear load space is actually decent enough with the seats down - I can fit my road bike in with the front wheel off.
Rear seats get a lot of heat in reviews, but I just don't see it...I'm 6'2" and sit in the back fine, in fact, it has much more space in the back than many cars - and more than several bigger crossovers I tried. On Saturday we had 5 adults in the car and it was fine. In the past we've had 3 adults with cases for a 2 week cruise all in safe.
I don't really understand criticisms of the interior build, either...it's really quite decent...everything feels solid, most of the plastics are nice enough (there are a couple that aren't to my taste, but that's an aesthetic thing) and everything works quite easily.
Then there's driving the thing, which I find really good fun. It's got next to zero suspension, so expect to be shaken like you're in a tumble drier. This does mean, however, that it rolls amazingly little for such a tall car, so it holds the road well and you can corner at surprisingly high speeds.
I've got the 1.5DCI and it's got a decent amount of umph through all 6 gears and it brakes pretty well, too. I get 50mpg-ish at the moment...and I'm not driving the thing what you'd call gently (I'm not rallying it around the place, though) - which is fine for me.
A lot of the displays and buttons etc in the cockpit are quite gimmicky, but I'm OK with that.
I like the thing because it's big, ugly and a bit of fun...there's only me and the wife at the moment, so "practical" isn't actually a major concern for us, the ecomomy's fine and it was at a good price point.
As long as you go in with your eyes open about how wildly impractical the thing is compared to other similarly sized cards, and you're OK with that, I think the Juke's great.0 -

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder and all that...I find the Juke ugly, but in a good way....that Renault is just plain hideous...it looks like that thing Rover did where they stuck chunky bumpers on a 200 to make it all "urban, innit". eugh.0 -
With your sensible head on - you would buy a more practical, spacious and economical car. But if its a car that you really like then I see no reason why you shouldn't buy one if you are happy once you've test driven it.
Would I buy one? No. But that's just my opinion, and you should go with how you feel. I'm sure the majority of people who own a Juke bought it simply becasue they liked it, not the fact that was practical or economical etc.0 -
Maybe the new Note is a better bet? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Quite fancy a look at that, the only thing that puts me off is that apparently they are only three cylinder engines plus there is new Honda Jazz in the new year.
Oh man, I had the note for a few days while the Juke was in the shop...It's exactly the opposite of the Juke...much more practical, more boot space, more cubby holes and all the rest, but just *so boring* - no fund to drive, rolls all over the place, quite drab interior...Really just dull as dishwater.
New Jazz should be good, though...had one of those before the Juke and really loved the thing...practical, but with a little style.
Fingers crossed they try making a version with more than a 1.4l engine this time....that was the only thing letting down what should have been quite a funky car for young families.0 -
I was having a good nosey around a Nissan Cube last week, loads of space, same level of weirdness to the styling as the Juke, and by the looks of it, the same set of engines.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0
