If you're after a cheap tablet, the Nooks are cheap at the mo. Starting with the Nook HD 8GB for £80, which is 7". 10" version (Nook HD+) is cheap too. They run a skinned version of Android, but do have access to the Google Play store. Can be found in Argos.

Hi, thanks for your input I know nothing about tablets persay apart from Ipad which I know is basically a computer without an attached keyboard. Do all tablets work in a similar way? I ask as I saw a cheap Nook but on reading the info it seemed more like a book reader (like a kindle) than an ipad like device? Any advice would be great. I need one to play video which I understand would have to be downloaded from the internet as there are no cd/dvd drives on a tablet. Sorry to sound thick but when it comes to tablets I am not clued up at all.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Many thanks.;)

An iPad isn't like a computer without an attached keyboard; it's like an iPhone without an attached phone.

Do you just need it to play videos? What sort of videos?

Would they need to be in high definition? If so I would avoid a real cheap, cheap one.

Not neccesarily I have been looking at maybe a galaxy tab or a Nexus 7 but they look quite expensive. I have a good laptop so dont want to spend a huge amount of money its really to take out and about. Thanks for your help.

The old nexus 7 is very good price wise, John Lewis had the Samsung tab 7inch for 150£ plus the usual warranty for electrical goods, but you say you wanted a 10 inch so disregard that.

As advised, a tablet (in the modern sense) isn't really a small computer, it's a big phone (similar inside, with a bigger screen and bigger battery), and running the same operating system.
Any decent tablet will do the job you want, and I find Android ones more flexible than iPads.
The Nooks are designed as e-Readers, but have all the functions of a tablet too. They run Andoid with a 'skin' over it, and have access to the Google Play store to download those apps. This is similar to Amazon's Kindle tablets, except that the Kindles only access Amazon's app store. They look like good value at the moment to me.

My first tablet was probably a Junior Disprin. :)

    I'll get my coat.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
