My best cold caller explained that as he'd leafleted me 3 hours earlier his call was a 'follow up' and not 'cold'.

    You have to laugh!
  • I'm a cold caller - and I'm not trying to sell anything :D (I'm contacting people who are entitled to free insulation under the various Government schemes).
I will never knowingly knock a property with a "no cold callers" sign. Although a few weeks ago I did becaus I didn't notice the sign and the lady concerned is very happy that her home is now insulated. :)
I've also had people with signs get upset because their neighbours have been offered free insulation and they haven't.
Any ethical cold caller will respect a home owners requests not to call and will leave a property once it is made clear that the homeowner is not interested.
After all, as I'm paid only once a measure has been installed, why would I waste everyones time by knocking on a door of someone who does not want what I have to offer or arguing with someone once they have said no?

Exactly! I wish all cold callers had the same sensible attitude. :)

I have no interest in buying lucky heather, new gutters, your brand of god, upvc underwear, charity chugging (they're the worst by miles), bush trimming, lib dem pleading, just in your area tarmacing another drive, cavity wall and loft insulting etc etc from anybody at my door who obviously thinks the no callers sign does not apply to them. Yes it does. My house, my door, my time. Nothing short of anti social behaviour and should be banned.

    Feel better now...

I haven't been offered lucky heather for years, have just had new gutters fitted (by someone who was recommended, not a cold caller). Jehovah's Witnesses are here most Saturday mornings but they seem to be getting the message. Upvc underwear?
If I wanted to support a charity I would not do it in response to a chugger. I've heard that if you do then the organisation that they work for gets £200. I would rather give the charity £200. Haven't got a bush to trim.
Ironically, although I hate cold callers and wouldn't be interested in getting into a debate with political canvassers, part of me thinks they should at least make an effort if they want the votes. No drive to tarmac. I've had damp and have heard that cavity wall insulation can actually make that worse so wouldn't chance it.

I do agree with everything you say and couldn't have put it better myself. :D

well if i want someone to tarmac my drive, trim my hedge, replace or clean my gutter, replace the loose roof tiles that i dont have etc. then i would pick up something called THE YELLOW PAGES anjd call several for free estimates and not chose Joe Blogs because he knocked at my door just when the long awaited plot on Corrie was coming to an end and because i answered the door i missed it
  • I had a strange conversation with a cold-caller on my phone about a week ago:
Him: Hello, sir, I am calling from [garbled company name that I didn't catch] and I wanted to talk to you about your broadband
Me: You don't have permission to call me trying to sell me anything. Where are you calling from?
Him: YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO ASK ME ANYTHING!
And then he hung up. Cheeky swine. Basically he called to sell me something then, when I called him on it, shouted at me and hung up.

I am also amazed at how many takeaway leaflets we get even though we have a large sticker on the letterbox saying no commercial mail/junk mail.

I feel like collecting it all up and then when i have a small mountain of these go along to the takeaways and then dumping them on their doormat.

we get cold callers even though we have a sign saying no cold callers, so why do these companies not learn their cold calling staff the basic concept of reading as its clear they just are unable to read.

with Jehovah's Witnesses that cant read its just a simple ' sorry dont have the time as i have to go to and give my monthly blood donation'

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I'll have to remember that for next time!

That is actually a well known scam. But I can't remember the details.

OMG....flaming Mark Group, I have the cold caller sign up and they have knocked on again. They have no called at our house 12 or 13 times in the past 3 months. Sometimes they have even called on the same day.

Today they tried to say the sign wasnt applicable to them!:mad::mad::mad::mad:
