I wouldn't blame the sale assistant probably following company procedure and they get a rollicking if they are caught not doing so.

If I was in my late 20's and was asked for ID for a 12A film, I would after confirming they weren't joking, just say ok I know it's not your fault, I leave it then. I'd leave it, but with the rest of my shopping they'd already rung up for them to return back to the shelf.

They needlessly try to inconvenience me, I inconvenience them.
They are not trying to inconvenience you, just merely following company procedure as you say. In this day and age with fickle employers and new employment law people want to hold onto their jobs rather than be let go

    Not True

I use self service tills all the time and whenever there is an age restricted item the assistant always just come over, look at me and put it through. I am clearly over 25!

This is what normally happens with me but not this time lol

Yep, same happens with me but can you blame people for following company procedure when jobs are at a premium and companies can let you go for next to nothing.

Is any company seriously going to fire somebody because that person decided to use common sense and not ID an adult for a 12 film??! Really?

Company procedure is one thing. Being ridiculous is another.

One of the big 4 supermarkets tried to do just that when a member of staff failed to ask someone who was over 18 but under 25 for ID. The customer was an in-house company sting operation similar to trading standards sting operations.

The staff member only escaped the sack due to the union getting involved.
