Her exact words were "Are you over 25?" I said yes I'm 27 her response "have you got id to show you're over 25?if you haven't I cant sell you the DVD"First Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
It was a self service till though - they will come up with an automatic warning and will need authorisation from a staff member before you can pay for any item that has an age restriction.0

Bottom line: this particular sales assistant is stupid."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

As Azari said, they stick to one age-verification policy for all age restricted goods in order to prevent confusion among staff. A single simple policy is much easier for staff to be taught/remember/apply than different policies for each product - so it leads to fewer mistakes.
What a wonderful attitude (not), the customer has to jump through these self imposed hoops because the retailer either employs staff who are incapable of making reasoned decisions themselves or the retailer cannot be bothered to train the staff properly.0 -

Funny how there seems to many particular sales assistants like this.
I had this once when the items in my shopping basket were bread rolls, a tub of butter, some cheese, and some disposable plastic knives. I guess it's fairly obvious that we wanted to MAKE SOME SANDWICHES!!! but my friend, 28, who had 1 small child and a baby with him, was asked to prove he was over 16. Utter madness.
Oh, and another one. My friend, who was 20 at the time and is 6ft 4", was the reason his dad, a 50-year-old vicar with a dog collar and everything, was declined a bottle of wine with his weekly shop. Baffling.
I genuinely think the 'think 25' campaign is useless. People shouldn't think 25 because they will ask for ID even if it's blindingly obvious the person is an adult. There is a world of difference between 18 and 25, yet if they're reasonably sure, but not convinced, you're over 25 they'll ID you. They should think 18 and if you're not 100% sure ask for ID.0 -
Just to add to this thread I got ID'd on Monday buying Glue from Morrisons, I'm 26 and because the policy is think 25 the lady came over to the self service till to ID me, she was quite apologetic but I think they are made to do it!
Luckily I had my Driving Licence on me!0 -
I got ID'd in Asda when I was 24. The checkout assistant refused to sell to me because I wasn't 25 even though I showed my driving licence as proof of age. Got served in the end after a supervisor came over.0

The 'Think 25' flag comes up for U cert DVDs and 3+ computer games. I have seen a cashier refusing the sale of Despicable Me to someone who looked in their early 20s and it was a U cert DVD. The customer kicked up a fuss and got a supervisor to sell it. U means Universal for all and you don't need ID!
It would be so much easier if shops didn't put the Think 25 flag on U cert DVDs.
I have noticed that since turning 30, I have been ID'd 7 times and before then - just twice! The first when I was a few days short of my 24th birthday!0 -
Is this correct I thought think 25 only applied for alcohol and cigarettes?
Other things which have age restrictions - I worked for Argos and a paper shop as a student:
. Lottery
. Fireworks inc sparklers
. Knives
. Painkillers
. Anti-diarrhea tablets
. Liquour chocolates (need to be 16)
. Lighter refills
. Computer games
. Some computer mags as the demo discs have games with a cert 15.0 -

Exactly - although when the sales assistant came over she should have just overriden it as you were clearly over 12!0
