ID'd for a 12A DVD

I'm 45, so I'd probably kiss a sales assistant if they thought I was under 250

A lot of DVDs will have the same barcode for the till (I don't mean the one on the actual DVD case, a lot of the time there's another sticker on the cellophane wrap - this tends to be the case if there's a mix of DVDs for the same price, rather than it being a newer DVD - and it might just show up on the receipt as "DVD £5.99") so that barcode will be flagged as some will have higher age restrictions.
So to the till, that DVD has an age restriction - and the till will be asking a question like "have you asked for ID?" There's a button for yes or a button for no, and then no will stop the sale - but there's no button for "no, but the DVD is actually rated 12A".
To anyone viewing the CCTV, they will see the assistant selling an age restricted product. They won't be able to see enough detail to know whether it's actually 18, 12A or U - and they might just think that the assistant is lying about it being a lower limit to get out of trouble. So the assistnat has to stick to the policy.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209

I genuinely think the 'think 25' campaign is useless. People shouldn't think 25 because they will ask for ID even if it's blindingly obvious the person is an adult. There is a world of difference between 18 and 25, yet if they're reasonably sure, but not convinced, you're over 25 they'll ID you. They should think 18 and if you're not 100% sure ask for ID.
The campaign isn't useless it's just some assistants who take it way too literally.
I used to work for Sainsburys and the first person I ever had to ask for ID (who was buying alcohol) turned out to be 29. I was really embarrassed but he just acted like it happened to him all the time and wasn't bothered.
I wasn't being awkward or trying to get him to prove he was over 25, he just genuinely looked to me to be about 18 so I had to ID him as for all I knew he could have actually only been 17.0 -

I thought this (I'm 40) until the point at which it did happen, and I had to leave the shop without my bottle of chablis. Then I just felt incredibly annoyed. Who thinks to carry id in their 40s??"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

If it had been through a normal till, wouldnt have batted an eyelid0 -
so what if someone slips the cashier a quid, to NOT think you look 'under 25'..?
different shops seems to make their own rukes up- tome to set the check age the same..

Everyone quick to dig them out but the first post some 7 posts down, it was self service, it is automated. They have to check regardless if it is automated.

Not True
I use self service tills all the time and whenever there is an age restricted item the assistant always just come over, look at me and put it through. I am clearly over 25!£2 Savers Club #156!

I wouldn't blame the sale assistant probably following company procedure and they get a rollicking if they are caught not doing so.
If I was in my late 20's and was asked for ID for a 12A film, I would after confirming they weren't joking, just say ok I know it's not your fault, I leave it then. I'd leave it, but with the rest of my shopping they'd already rung up for them to return back to the shelf.
They needlessly try to inconvenience me, I inconvenience them.0
