  • I am considering solar panels from A Shade Greener. I am 63 so with either be 88 or dead by the end of the 25 year term so it probably won't bother me much but .... at the end of the term the panel are left on the roof. Does anyone have any idea what sort of costs my dependants would be looking at to get the redundant panels removed? (At current prices of course, as we can't predict the future)

Hi all, I wrote the guide on the MSE site on solar panels. Has anyone here had, or know of, any experiences where solar panels have been mis-sold? It was a problem back in 2012, but I'm trying to establish if it has reared its head again.

Would be great to hear of any cases, no matter how small or which supplier.

    Thanks!

Hi sent you a pm...happy to discuss misselling on a grand scale by this company
  • Has anyone been mis sold solar paneling recently.

We have recently been well and truly stitched up by a company in Solihull, West Midlands.

Agent came out and told us all about how the government were giving grants out for solar paneling. We did stress that as we could not afford to pay for anything,(i am 58 and husband is 62) and we signed the form for the government grant which now turns out was a financial agreement for 15 years costing 20k, which he never went through with us which i think is illegal and apparently he taped the meeting, again we did not know this and which again i think is illegal. As you can imagine we will both be well into our 70's when this is paid and of no use to us. So far we have had £25 back in grand in 7 months and thiS has so far cost me £1,000.

W e are at our wits end as we cannot afford this, has anyone been in a similar situation.

Did you read the form or just sign it?

No, but I would always read contracts before signing them and I know there's a cooling off period for all contracts signed at home.

You had 7 days to read and understand what you had signed up to, so could have cancelled within that time.
  • Hi
I’ve recently had solar PV panels by British Solar which I paid for outright. Unfortunately my energy supplier OVO wasn’t a licensed FIT ‘provider’ so I had to apply to British Gas (who service my gas boiler) to get the FIT because other FIT providers insisted that you had to be an existing customer for energy supply. Although I was told that OVO had to legally provide me with the FIT I feared that they may delay the process and I would have missed the April 1st ‘deadline’ when the tariff was reduced. I’ve not read all the messages on the forum to see if anyone else has had the same issue. Also my contract with OVO expires on May 1st so I’d like to explore options available given that my electricity consumption will have reduced but it is too early to say by how much at the moment because I have only 6 weeks of Solar PV production to base an assessment. I am tempted to stay with OVO because they currently offer one of the best value short fixed deals and pay interest on any surplus funds in your account. Does anyone have any observations or advice?

Hi I too have been well and truly stitched up and missold a poorly performing system by a Manchester company. I have so much negative info on them now ( too late) that I could publish a novel. My situation was mentioned by Penman in the Daily Mirror and I am battling with the company via RECC, MCS and NICEIC. The company is a disgrace and should be closed down,so no,you are not on your own, charlatans exist all over the country. MCS, REA, NICEIC means nothing, no protection, just negotiation and mediation.

  • We have 16 panels on our roof, we were told that it would not cost us anything, we just under 74 which is the cut off point to have them, we are now paying £117 a month, and when I phoned them they told me that in the end we break even, (if we live that long), we can afford to pay £117 a month but other people can not. nothing was mentioned about paying per month.so have we been had or is there a really away of having panels that do not cost anything.
